Out of curiousity, is it common across the US for competitive high school runners to place highly at half marathons? Also, what times have you seen runners like this put up? I couldn't find an old post about this topic in my searches.
I'm considering trying to hit either somewhere between 1:23 and 1:30, though I was a consistent high 16 low 17 runner during xc (high school freshman) but haven't run a half in about two years. Also, what would be a good goal to set for a half marathon coming up in about a month in a half devoted entirely to running?
If it helps, during xc I would take 8-9 mile runs at around 6:25-6:35 for workouts on tempo days. My track season was spent focusing on shorter distances (400/sometimes 800) , so not really applicable in terms of training.
Thanks!
