I've been running competitively for more than half my life now and am a distance runner at a upper tier distance D1 powerhouse school. I have always struggled with racing well, particularly in important meets. I have a tendency to "shut down" and stop racing sometimes and I do not really know how to control it. I've tried visualization and do not have nerve issues before races. This year, I have "shut down" in every one of my races. I'm starting to wonder if D1 running is not actually for me. I have always thought I would go pro and run post collegiately until I couldn't anymore but I'm now wondering if that's what I actually want. Outside of in the middle of the race, I want to run and I want to win. I never have this issue in workouts but when the gun goes off I slowly start caring less and less. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
