Wejo, I second you.

Up to the last 400M when he started to sprint I felt he could have gone another 15 K easily, Kipchoge looked that strong.
He adjusted his game for the competition he faced an ran well within himself.
Even though a marathon is an "Any Given Sunday" event. I don't believe any of his rivals honestly believe they can beat him if they are all at their best.

KIPCHOGE said in his interview afterwards on the BBC, he knew he had the 30km record and HE himself slowed down between 30-40km. Not the fault of there not being a pace car, mis-informed, not told soon enough ect. as speculated above.
The guy knew he was on record pace and just missed it. He got his job done, which was to defend his title. It just goes to show when he makes the record his aim, he will undoubtedly kill it!
Who knows, maybe today was his chance, like Berlin 2012 was G. Mutai's chance before there was a problem with the time on the pace car and they slowed, it never came back...
As for Kimetto, well at least he finished this time, hope he was bluffing when he said pre-race that he was in Berlin 2014 shape...
The Olympic marathon should be a good race for once with Kipchoge, Biwott and hopefully Bekele. Throw in Abera (Dubai + Hamburg) and Kipserem (Rotterdam) instead of Kipsang.
Kenenisa Bekele says he missed his drink five times during the race. "This is a fast race and you need energy! I'm not happy about it."

I really wanted Bekele to win, but at the same time...how do you miss your drink five times?

Not much talk of Kimetto. Blows up with 1:10:xx second half & finishes 9th. Third in London a year ago & has struggled since. What's to be expected going forward??
He is obviously enjoying the good life a bit too much. He needs to take his training seriously again, but like so most other runners who did well to start out, and made a lot of money, his best is likely in the past. Mentality is a major part of staying a top runner.

London better get a pace car after this. Kipchoge would've broken the WR if he knew how fast he was going before the final straight.
Even with big pockets London has never been the best managed race. A lot pomp and blustering, but poorly managed. They get away with it because the fast times cover up the bad parts of the race.
Amazing run by Kipchoge- GOAT. Biwott is a beats too--#2 in the world by far.
My picks for Kenya team:
1. Kipchoge, 2. Biwott, 3. Need a warm Rio weather runner (Wesley Korir? Not so fast, but always does well in the heat, and there are no more obvious #3s)
Female:
1.Sumgong 2. F. Kiplagat 3. Keitany
Anyone know where/if I can find a replay of the marathon? I'd love to stream it sometime this week. WatchAthletics has the 2015 race available, but I don't know if they will have this year's up soon. If there's a copy already available to stream that would be great.

I'm watching the replay on bbc but using hola as it won't play in the US. I'm sure NBC will post their replay and it will make its way to watchathletics in time.
Jemima...Gladys....Florence..love the names. So......1895.
Anyone know what kind of money Kipchoge will get for the 30k record? Bummer to miss the marathon but at least he got one record!

Runners with less 5/10k speed are less able to handle fast starts.

He really blew it by doing that.

Is there a video of this?

I hate to say it but he is done. I feel bad for him. Very beautiful runner he is.
He's not done! In case you're not familiar with how he's done of late, here it goes: ELEVEN straight marathon / half marathon wins. Unheard of consistency. Then one second place finish at London last year, losing to Kipchoge, the greatest ever, and now a fifth place finish in which he got trampled and injured his leg, and still pulled himself together to run 2:07. You might have missed the nasty fall he took at 10 km.
http://www.wilson-kipsang.com/media?mediaId=22991189A bit early to say a guy's done after 11 unbelievable marathons and now 2 still very good ones.

Why do people keep insisting there wasn't a pace car?
I was standing at the 39k marker, and I saw it go past. Kipchoge and Biwott were about 20m behind so they definitely could see it.

Don't forget that Kipsang fell early on at a drink station and caught back up during that blistering first 28:xx 10k. He had a pretty good run today, likely 2:06ish with a more even pace.
The Looting Marathon: Outrage as dozens of thieves are filmed brazenly stealing bundles of water left for London's official runners !
Video shows mob stealing bottles of water minutes into the marathon
One man even brought a trolley with him to pile up crates of the water
Dozens of people were involved in the theft in Deptford, south-east London

Only two athletes? What on earth are you talking about?

Only two athletes. Kipchoge and Biwott. We were discussing a particular race.
Try to keep up.
