His coach said stay away from sugar not stay away from added sugar that isn't good advice sugar is necessary for your brain to work and function and sugar is in pretty much everything like even fruits and vegetables
Don't the Kenyans talk about the two types of fuel being your sugars and your fats?

Yeah his coach didn't mean stay away from vegetables.
He meant stay away from sugar. As in the refined sucrose you add to coffee and make the doughnuts with that you stuff into your face.

10 years from now when your dentist is drilling your root canal, you will wish you listened to your coach
keep eating your sugar all the way to the hospital for your insulin shots...
Your body does need sugars, but that didn't mean you need to consume it. Your body can make sugars from other nutrients.
Avoiding all dietary sugar is not terribly practical, but keeping your sugar intake low is good advice.

The probably isn't sugar it's crabs. The whole idea of crabo loading before a race is outdated and laughable. Your coach probably meant stay away from crabs, which is good advice.
I do feel like crabs are the secret. Why do so many great runners live in the Pacific Northwest? Alaskan king crab right off their shores.
I once seen a picture of white sugar compared to actual body fat. It's helped me avoid donuts and candy over the years. Not saying I never give in.

As someone born and raised in the area I can vouch for your statement. Crabs for life.
Why would you call your son Sugar. Strange coach you have, man.
You should also stay away from candy too as well as brandy, bunny, and cinnamon. Your coach is pretty smart.

I don't care how good crabs are for you, stay away from Ginger.
Sugar, or any form of carbs, will make you scrawny fat.
You need to eat a lot of red meat rich in sat fat, if you want to be buff and shredded.
Go workout with your friend on the tug toners.
I would never stay away from Candy. She is my reason for living!

Obviously he meant avoid added, processed sugar you nitpicker. Which is good advice.
To everyone,
He gets passive aggressive when he sees us drinking gatorade
News flash, simple sugars work well with our bodies with regards to fast running. The only time problems arise is when you ingest too much and/or sit on your lazy bum and don't use those sugars you ingested, which is not the case here, since, ya know, i'm a distance runner
Pigging out on candy is one thing (which should be avoided for reasons other than running performance), having a few gummy worms or drinking gatorade before a 1500, for example, is another. This will not harm performance.
Don't you feel silly for assuming i was advocating full-on candy binges
