It says that he ran 10.84 and 21.96 in late march. Are these considered fast times for an 800m runner? Didn't Loxsom run a rolling 21.9 in a workout last year? I guess that it's more impressive that Solomon started in blocks.

10.84 would be unbelievably fast for an 800m runner. Looks like they are confusing him with UC Irvine senior Duane Solomon:

It was a rolling 20.9 I believe for Loxsom.
Yeah you are right, sorry bout that.
Most any great male 800 runner can run 10.5 100m with a running start, a few can hit < 10'
Roughly speaking:
800m time = 10-11 x running start 100m for an 800m
Different ratios for women of course.

That's nice, but none of them will run 10.84 FAT.
So Alan Olympic level 800 guy could not runs 100 time that would not make HS finals in most states?
Here is your Duane Solomon running 21.96:
That was a SPRINTER that ran 21.96. THE Duane Solomon didn't run 21.96 and he didn't run 10.84 either.
If an 800 runner could run 10.84 for 100 from blocks, they'd run a whole lot faster than 21.9 for 200.
By the way I am told at his peak Seb Coe was capable of 10.80 or so for 100 from blocks - and that is from a sprinter who trained with and against him. He was in 10.70 shape, and Coe was keeping up.

What does a HS state finals time have to do with this??? Usain Bolt couldn't run a 800 or mile time from a good state final either. He may not even be able to make the 400 time when he's in 100m shape.
Yeah right. And I rolling started a 2:04 marathon

Bolt is not claiming that he ran a fast 800 time in his imagination. But distance runners keep trying to make believe they're fast like sprinters, when in actual fact they'd be scared to even line up against us. And this fraud of Duane Solomon is just an indication of what a fraud the distance media/fan base really is. If you guys really want to get your a$$es kicked, I think you can figure out where to find us.
It's true bud, don't let the butthurt flow too deeply

Nope. Or vice versa.
I'm sick of this age old discussion claiming that no 800m runner ever could have run under 11 seconds FAT.
If Curtiss beach could run sub 4 (1500) and sub 11 (100) in the same decathlon while also having to spend a lot of his training energy on skill events, surely there has been an elite 800m runner capable of running just under 11 FAT as well, at some point in history.
Shoot, I had a kid in my league in high school run 10.8 in the 100m and 1:54 in the 800. He was obviously a very special athlete, he also jumped about 7 feet in hj, 24 in lj, and was a very good hurdler.
If he can run that fast at 18 years old, why couldn't an elite 800m runner, who is a better athlete, perhaps match that 100m time while running faster in the 800? Why can't people on this board acknowledge that there really are those extremely rare but extremely talented individuals? Sub 11 is fast, sure, but it isn't so unspeakably fast that it is unbelievable for a very occasional elite athlete in an event that is 40% anaerobic couldn't possible have that kind of speed and power.

I'm sick of discussions claiming I cannot break 11 either, but reality doesn't care what you're sick of.

Why do you have such a chip on your shoulder when it comes to distance runners and distance running?

That video ....
(1) No way they ran a legit 15.3 for 150m. Isn't that professional sprinter territory?
(2) Nick and Cas have a lot of upper body mass for middle-distance runners. Makes me feel better about my bulky upper body that I can't seem to get rid of.
(3) Anyone else get annoyed by Nick Symmond's lingo? It's like a combination of fratiness and running nerdiness and Old English.
"I wanna run 22-point. Put the old dog up front. I'll limp off the line. These guys will be chomping at the bit."
(4) Does Mark always wear a striped blue shirt (see 0:39)? Every picture I've seen him in, he is wearing one. And I actually ran a road race right behind him most of the way and we was wearing a striped blue shirt.
(5) Such a more chillax group of guys than the NOP and overall Oregon running scene.

You can't compare 800 runners with 5-10km runners. Look at the difference in builds. Top 800 runners can run 45 for 400 - can Mo? No, of course not, because his training and event demand a heap of aerobic work and a light frame.
Interesting perspective. I think flotrack has some cool videos on Solomon, but only if you have FloPro.
