I wonder if will be titled "Touched For The Very First Time." But seriously, Virgin was a special runner.
Unfortunately that title was already used in Jerry Sandusky's book..
Don't know but he is currently selling some of his old shoes etc on ebay
He's on facebook if you want to contact him
Just finished reading this, out of the 30 or so running books I have read this was the best.
Talks about fellow runner's, giving a lot of credit to his competition.

I also read it recently. It was quite interesting. I enjoyed the description of his first race at altitude, which he attempted to win by front-running against Tony Sandoval. Did not work.
Galen Rupp should read Craig Virgin's book. Craig raced a lot, like almost weekly. Come on Galen, if you're the best, get out there and show your stuff like Craig did. Virgin raced everybody everywhere, and raced often. Roads, track or cross country, it didn't matter. Rupp picks 3 or 4 races a year, and only Rupp certified.

How many worlds championships does Galen have?
How many investigations does Virgin have against him?
Galen can barely talk.

Best chance was 1980. That Olympics, he bookended with back to back world xc champs, when they actually meant something.

He was in a horrible head-on accident, I think in St Louis -- not his fault, as I recall. Maybe that has something to do with why, if true, "he can barely walk now".
Craig, if you read this, I wish you the best. I loved following your thrilling competitions.

He can barely walk now because of a serious car accident.
Apparently no one knows how to find Craig's book.

I read the book and it was really good. My one disappointment was that he did not outline the training which took him from being one of the best ever when he was younger and allowed him to compete as a senior at the highest level without burning out .

If Craig Virgin's high school coach was a genius coach with all the secrets of proper training then he would not still have been in a small town without a track. However, he was very smart. He was smart enough to give him hard workouts because he had a special talent who was highly competitive and worked hard. So, to answer your question, Craig worked out really, really hard all the time. He did have injuries along the way, but seemed to rapidly recover his fitness level.
The book said that he had an unusually high VO2 max, and an abnormally large and efficient heart. Combine all that with being competitive and the willingness to work hard, probably any training that combined speed and distance would have worked. He didn't have or need all the high tech gimmicks (and other things) that Rupp and friends use.
