Hey Letsrun.
Is it a bad idea to take the lead in a 1500m race to ensure a faster time? Every race I've been entered has been 64/65 per lap, and I've been finishing in 57-59. Its frustrating because even though I've been winning heats, I've been running 3:54-3:56 because of slow paces for the first few laps. I really think I can run close to sub 3:50.
I'm considering moving up to the lead after the first lap to keep the pace up at 61/62. I know this is a bad strategy for winning races. But even if I dont win the heat, I think getting the experience at a fast race would be worth it.
