Casio has some nice cheap watches. Like $15. All it does is keep time, has alarms, and a stopwatch that you can start and stop. Its all I have ever needed in years of running.
I have no need to a GPS, or splits that are saved, or something that connects to my phone. Just tell me how long it took me to run from point A to point B.
Ironman. You can get a 50 or 100 lapper if you like to track your lap times for training. I think you can get a 20 - 25 lap memory for about $30.
Garmin Forerunner
I have the 630 and love it, but the 235 or 230 would be almost just as good if I was on a budget, just not as many bells and whistles.
If the distance you are running is pre-known, cheap watch from wal mart as mentioned. If you want your pace/distance recorded, it seems like TomTom Runners or some low end Garmins will do the trick and can be purchased for

I will second the 630 recommendation. But you can get a very basic Garmin for around $100 or get a model a gear old two old for less. Older versions are still available on Amazon. I saw a 210 for $60 recently. A great training tool. Keep the math and mental work out of it and let the wat h do the work so you can just run.

I like my Grand Seiko. Great value for the money.
APPLE WATCH
No other watch currently on the market has a similar balance between sex-appeal/looks and functionality.
Yeah go ahead and buy a Casio or Timex - but you won't get laid, I'll tell you that much.
Buy a used Garmin 220 on fleabay. Best running watch out there, if you like the options of GPS, pace alerts, and HR alerts.
The newer Garmins don't beep loudly enough, making their pace alerts fairly useless.
I bought the Garmin 235 two weeks ago and am very impressed and happy with the purchase.
Prior to this I used Timex without GPS and then a Garmin with now ancient technology which I used till I got this one.
It's pretty amazing. GPS locks in within seconds even by big buildings, alerts are very nice and very easy to see everything. Run mapping is very cool. Watch is very light and comfortable, I forget I have it on.
Would recommend to anyone who is a runner. If its only light fitness stuff you do there are cheaper options.
