utter nonsense
why woud the 1500m world record holder who smashed what many believed was an unbetable wr due to stand for eternity, not want to run it in games ???
i'd take 1500 gold any time over a 5k / 10k double gold
if she doesn't run the 1500, then whoever wins will be worst fraud of a "champ" in living memory
She wants revenge against Ayana for spanking her
Here is the youtube link:
She said that her win in the 3000m race was easy as the field was not strong.
She also said that she didn't compete for both 1500m and 3000m as the schedule was very close.
Finally she said that she was thinking to compete in both 5000m and 10000m in Rio. But at the moment she was not sure about the 10000m as she first has to run 10000m to fulfil the Olympic qualifying time.
According to her 1500m is a no. 5000m sure. 10000m may be.
From previous experience I don't think she would get her wishes ( remembers Moscow 2013? ). The final decision is made by the Ethiopian Athletics Federation. They won't allow to slip a sure gold medal in 1500m to Holand. Ayana can easily bring gold in 5000m.
As for prestige, in Ethiopia the longer the distance the more prestigious it is.
Marathon, 10K, 5K etc.
Why not 800/1500 double? Her last 800m in the WR 1500 was around 1:58.

I agree. Her last 800m in Beijing was even better, 1:56.92. But, for some reason she is obsessed with the 5000m.

Shorter distances don't carry the same heft at home in Ethiopia as the longer distances. She's been saying this since last year. Doesn't make sense to most of us, but she's right when she says that the longer double is more doable than the 1500m and 5000m double.

Fine for your own opinion. Survey whatever group you want, and most would take double gold.

This is just a completely ridiculous statement. No one is responsible for what event their competitors enter. Whether Dibaba enters a different event(s)or gets injured and doesn't compete at all, whomever wins the 1500 in Rio is Olympic champion and deservedly so.
i wouldnt be suprised if she just concentrates on the 1500.cant see her attempting a 10'000/5'000.
Por que no todo tres? 1500, 5k y 10k?
We know that her commitment to the 5000 is non-negotiable. Revenge on Ayana, Ethio credibility and all that. She feels she has nothing to prove over 1500.
The heats of the w5000 are the morning of the w1500 final that evening. Even Genzebe isn't going to tackle that (though she might well be able to pull it off). The 10000 is a straight final 8 days before the 5000 final. Much friendlier double.
A: The 1500 is a much riskier bet, in almost every championship some of the medal favorites falls in either the preliminary rounds or in the finals.
B: It's possible she will switch to the marathon already in 2017. Her sister is. And that's where the big money is. On the men's side we've already seen younger dudes than her move straight to the 42195. The Dibaba sisters package deal and their manager would rule the marathon circuit moneywise.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ayana spanking Dibaba. She can do more besides.
Why would Ethiopia give up such a strong medal hope in the 1500, for more help in their already strong 5000 & 1000?

They've got different managers. I don't see Genzebe taking a go at the marathon till after 2020 at a minimum.
