They are unfairly discriminated against. We need more government programs and regulations to accommodate for them.

Maybe they should try losing weight if they don't want to be the fat person on the plane.
The A321 Airbus has made this a non-issue. You could fit 1000 fat people on one of those with room to spare.

Yeah, this was pretty funny:
"Last month, the doctor said my blood pressure was good, and that I had a healthier exercise regimen than most of the patients she sees. She couldn't figure out why I was still fat. Neither could I."
BECAUSE YOU EAT TOO MUCH!!!!!
If you can turn them into fat transgendered victims of discrimination, you're liable to get some traction with your movement. Just referencing plain old fat people is gonna be tough to work with.

If it's really that mortifying, why not just get two tickets and reserve side-by-side seats. Or sit in first class. More expensive, but if the situation is as terrible as the author claims, it would be money well spent.

Yeah, she complains that it costs too much. But you pay the fair price for the amount of space you take up.

"I'm really liberal." You are really a troll!
When I grow up I want to be fat so I can go on a plane and be sad.
PSA for skinny runners on Southwest cattle call seating on crowded flights. Consider taking a middle seat near the front next to a petite women or small child. When the giant whale comes waddling down the isle looking for some of the last seats on the plane, they will absolutely pick you out and sit in the middle seat next to you.
Troll attempt, 0/10.
I am very liberal, and I do not support regulations protecting obesity. Nice try.
No one is asking you to endorse obesity as a healthy lifestyle condition. (well, okay - maybe a few people are, but most of us know it's NOT healthy.) The point is: just don't be a judgmental a**hole toward overweight people. Treat everyone as someone of value until they prove otherwise with their actions.
You do not know how that person got obese. Some of the predisposing factors happen in utero, some of it is poor examples from parents, poor knowledge of nutrition, poverty, some people get hooked on certain junk foods and can't seem to break their poor eating habits. Neurotransmitter levels, gut microbes, and hormones all play a role and impact food choices. A substantial portion of obese children are victims of sexual abuse. You do not know what someone went through to get that way, so try not to be a d*ck. And try to just enjoy the fact that you are healthy yourself.
Thanks!
In case yoy hadnt noticed, the conservative ideoligy is largely based on fiction.
The other passengers aren't making eye contact because they fear being eaten.
It's an atavistic defense mechanism.
It isn't about being judgmental. It's about not wanting the person next to me to take up half of the seat I paid for. That I don't want your arm in my lap does not mean that I blame you for your condition. Just pay for a larger seat (or a second seat) and we'll all be happy.

This is what we call revealed preference. You can tell me what you value until you're blue in the face, but what you spend your money on tells me what you actually value.
If the thought of flying makes you miserable for weeks, one would think it would be a no brainer to spend a few hundred dollars to alleviate that misery. If some event was going to make me an anxious wreck for the next month and then leave me feeling humiliated, I'd spend $1K to avoid that event in a heartbeat. If you won't spend $600 on a second seat to avoid all that humiliation, then I guess the humiliation isn't as bad as you made it out to be.

Shouldn't her boss be paying for one of the seats?
Wow, that's the funniest saddest sympathy play I've ever read....
I've had people work for me who were like this (in some aspect of their life).
SO much so that people effectively changed the persons name from 'Joe', to 'Poor Joe'.
