Due to the recent busts of Aregawi and Sharapova (tennis), I decided to google meldonium and I found this thread:

Nothing. Just someone who wants to dope a lil bit. Nothing to see here.
lol, if you think this is just triathlon, you've got a lot more google searching to do.
Plus, don't lump ironman athletes with the olympic tri stuff. Olympic distance guys are class acts. Ironmen age groupers are as bad as the people who cheat to get into boston

Haha! Sure. It's an IOC sport. What does that tell you?

We having doping clinics all over town. They are called "antiaging centers". Honestly it is hard for me to get very upset by them. Heck I might even be an idiot for not viisting them. It turn out the benefits of a couple of drugs that get the hormones back to 20s levels is worth the risk.
It isn't like two 50 year old athletes (or 30 year for that matter) are on remotely similiar playing field to begin with.
Amateur tri is the wild west, especially in masters where people are financially established enough to go to anti-aging centers and get prescriptions for everything from testosterone to HGH and EPO. Not covered on insurance so $10,000+ per year out of pocket. No drug testing at the events.
Hey, help me dope to be less mediocre at not one but three sports!
This guy on the the MB is delusional.

My point exactly. It's a bunch of a s s holes with money to burn. Mostly the amateurs though. Sarah True, wife of Ben true, thinks that the elites are mostly clean tho, fwiw
While your general sentiment may exist simultaneous to something occurring in the real world, your actual reasons and inspiration are spurious. What you cited is a drug forum, for all things drugs, mostly recreational but also body building and then some sports. It's a skewed source.
Many moons ago I was a 3:46 1500 runner and I ran a few times a week post college. I didn't want to enter races where I knew I'd have no chance being close to my old PRs even though I wasn't old, I just didn't have as much time to train as before. For the past few years I've been doing triathlons as something to do with my brothers and got more into it about 18 months ago. I'm now in pretty good shape and compete well but a few things kind of shock me about tris. First, the amount of money people put into this is absolutely amazing. Second, a lot of people have no problem with using testosterone or HGH if they can get a prescription, knowing they don't really need one. Baby boomers trying to find the fountain of youth is a real deal. Last, cycling really is great and I think a lot athletic middle-distance guys would do really well at it with the mix of power and endurance.
There are a lot of triathletes that are a**holes, but the same can be said about runners unfortunately. I've been running since 6th grade (now about to graduate college) and I love it, but once I did my first triathlon I was hooked. I literally do it because I love it and want to see what I can accomplish since I'm actually pretty decent at it.
I hate that there is this public perception that triathletes are rich a**holes, yeah, some are, but not all of them and not even the majority (a lot of the older ones are just rich). Every triathlete are very friendly and encouraging and aren't pompous jerks trying to cheat to gain an advantage.

Yes! Let's not denigrate all triathletes as a group. Let's only denigrate all IM triathletes as a group, because everyone knows all oly triers are all class acts!
Hilarious.
this is the post, in case you can't find it on the page or are too lazy:
"Dear all
Some inputs are needed, so please feel free to comment and give your best advices.
Some background info:
I’m an age grouper/amateur triathlete training mostly for Ironman full distance and ½Ironman, 10-20 hours a week. Of various reasons (I do not want to bother you with here), I’m looking for some PEDs to enhance my Performance, both in terms of training to become stronger/better, but also to perform better on “race daysâ€. I’m 34 years old, 179 cm high and weight around 68 kg’s.
As an amateur, I’m not subject to any unannounced doping controls during the season, but I can potentially be subject to one during my race days. This I need to incorporate into my cycles and timing of the different PEDs.
I’m mostly looking for pills/capsules (do not like needles) and blood doping and EPO is a no-go as I see it too risky without a doctor to facilitate. In the same way, I’m very reluctant about GW501515, as I’m nervous about the potential side effects…
Now, my own considerations are currently:
Andriol 40 mg testo-caps 1-3 pcs. per week.
I know it’s low dose, but I’m not looking to gain extra weight unless it moves me forward faster and I know for example a guy like Tyler Hamilton in his book describes that he took Andriol 1-2 times per week – sometimes only one every second week. According to my research, a capsule will be out of “my system†within maximum 7 days and I can, according to my research use these Andriol more or less all your around without any side effects.
Any inputs to above, please?
Telmisartan pills, 80-160 mg per day
Were described to have some of the same effects as AIRCAR and GW, but don’t know if it’s true. Not on WADA’s list yet, only on monitoring
Has anyone tried Telmisartan and what are experiences and advices?
Meldonium/â€Mildronateâ€
Will be added to WADA list from January 2016, and I assume with a good reason.
Again, has anyone tried this drug and with what results? Does anyone know for how long it will be possible to detect in a doping control?
Other inputs and advices:
analbolics in oral, but how many mg’s, which types and when during the season?
AICAR, but how to avoid testing positive?
sarms, but are these for endurance athltehtes and how to use without testing positive?
Looking forward to your good inputs and advices."

Runners, college runners, cyclists, even Masters cyclists do this. Not all of them, but a healthy fraction. Bodybuilding forums have been doing this since there was such a thing as a forum. Before that they just did it at the gym. In pro running it's been done in Eugene, Boston, New York, Boulder, LA and Albuquerque among other places for 50 years.
The internet just makes information gathering easier now than it was in 1966.
This is not new.

One of the responses to the guy looking for PEDs suggested he try NAC (N-acetyl L-cysteine). It was explained that it acts as a precursor to production of the antioxidant glutathione. (More precisely, presence of cysteine is the limiting factor in the production of glutathione, as it's the least common of the 3 amino acids necessary to form glutathione.) Not mentioned is that glutathione is necessary for fructosamine 3-kinase to remove Amidori products (lightly glycated sugars) from tissues. At least, that was the impression I was under. De-glycating ones tissues can have cosmetic effects (e.g. make the skin look younger). I seek this de-glycation for cosmetic purposes.
Alarmingly, the response about NAC said that taking NAC does more than just help make glutathione, indicating a performance enhancement. Is this true??? Does NAC act as a PED???
I am an amateur hobbyjogger, but I take NAC. Am I a doper???
These guys pay thousands of dollars and risk their health as amateurs to compete for age group awards? Is there any monetary gain besides cheap medals and pride...? You can show up to any 200-person 5k and literally half the people there "wins" an age group award if they go 3 deep every 5 years.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
