You can call it "media whore" all you want. Others call it "market value" or "brand". There is nothing appealing about being the fastest athlete nobody has ever heard of. Get yourself known while you are active. Otherwise you'll end up 9-5ing at a shitty job before you know it, when your career is over. I can not see how people possibly are offended by that approach.
I imagine most of Symmonds' supporters are under the age of 19, so they have no frame of reference on Pre. They admire him for his running exploits, not for being a loudmouth
If every team other than Canada and USA can slap sponsor logos on its athletes at all major hockey events, than runners should be sponsored. (And yes the big two do it two at the Jr level).
You 12 year old girls would be a lot more respectful if you realized his abilities would garner $30 million a year in other sports. If he was making $30M you'd be fighting for his butt hair.
