Congratulations to Speed River on finding a way to get Katrina Allison and Aaron Hendrikx nominated for provincial government funding despite their low application scores. I'm looking forward to finding out how you pulled it off.

The full info will not be transparent because the process was fraudulent. They must know people, who know people, who know other people who like doing favours and manipulating the system. Must be nice to get 10k by screwing someone else who's more qualified and deserving out of 10k. Entitlement generation.
It's unfortunate that some of these SR athletes get a bad rap because of a couple people in power positions abuse their power and take advantage of loopholes at the expense of others (no ethics). Also, Athletics Canada is a power hungry organization that's intent on making money. They don't care that the QFG process was fraudulent, as long as they get their paycheck. Most of the money available (I'm not talking about QFG) goes to AC members, with a small portion allocated to the athletes through initiatives such as QFG.

Of course QFG is a provincial program run through Athletics Ontario so perhaps you can explain why you are trying to draw Athletics Canada into the mix.
Or are you just seeking to trash talk anyone you can?

Agreed, there is no need to bring up Athletics Canada unless there is some form of connection. Also no need to bring up wives.
I have yet to see anyone offer a reasonable explanation for how these Speed River athletes met the carding criteria and scored enough points to get money. That's really the crux of the current issue. So, without any trash talk, can some please explain what is going on here?
Guelph competes for OUA and CIS titles year after year. It's a competitive program. Not the place to go if dedication, and effort leading to results isn't part of what you want to accomplish at University. For some top high school runners the transition to the top level of running in the OUA/CIS is more than they can handle. Nothing wrong with this.
What does that have to do with literally anything going on here? The current issue is that a bunch of SR athletes were initially carded without meeting the criteria, which is interesting as a SR coach/manager (Moulton) is one of the people on the board who allocates these cards.
Unsurprisingly, people were not so pleased with this and appealed. And yet somehow "additional ministry cards" appeared to provide money for these athletes.
The issue is not whether these athletes are talented/hardworking. The issue is they applied for provincial monetary support when they did not meet the criteria outline to be eligible. There are countless other talented athletes out there that could use that money too - but because they didn't meet the eligibility, they didn't apply. And yet somehow SR athletes seem to have received preferential treatment.
The issue is not that Guelph does not have a good program and that its athletes do not work hard. Hendrickx and Allison are good athletes that probably deserve some level of funding. The issue is that they were awarded funding in a manner inconsistent with the Q4G criteria, where athletes existed who better fit them did not receive anything. If those who decide such things want to arbitrarily give funding based on subjective terms or the AC ranking list alone, then they need to say they are doing that. This is public money and the process needs to be transparent.
It is possible that there were some extenuating circumstances for both athletes that were part of their application that we don't know about. No one has attempted to give even a vague idea as to what those might be (eg. non-specific illness or injury). That is why the public is suspicious.
There are a few "haters" out there that are using this incident to unload all their vitriol (called or uncalled for) against Speed River/Guelph, but there are still questions that need to be answered.
I'm willing to keep an open mind to any and all information that comes out on this funding topic.
At this point, nobody has presented an explanation for Hendrikx and Allison receiving funding and, between the reputation of Speed River and fact that Hendrikx received funding the previous year despite not racing his event at Nationals, it looks as those they received special treatment at some point that was not available to other athletes.
Hendrickx won the CIS X Country individual title in 2015. That's how he earned funding. That's winning a 10K at a National Championship. Not sure how that can be construed as receiving special treatment. In fact he should get double funding for that great victory last fall. If anybody is going to get carded an athlete who can win CIS X should be on the list.

Not funny. Slightly captured the self-entitled sentiment of the Speed River group, but overall a significant fail.

Isn't the moral of the story don't cheat?

Can you point to where in any criteria that CIS XC are included in the list of considered National Championships?
Diverge from clear and fair criteria for team or funding selection and you get this type of result. Our CIS X champion should be an automatic qualifier for funding. Twenty three pages of criteria language, and the workings of a selection committee and they got the Hendrickx funding decision correct. There must be the typical escape clause language buried somewhere in those 23 pages that allows the selection committee to change the rules at anytime and as they see fit LOL. We've seen this language in selection criteria before and can look forward to the upcoming Olympic Team selection for more fair results.
Too bad funding didn't happen for our female national 10K record holder. Look past the petty club rivalries and clean up the mess that exists throughout the sport with the selection of teams and decisions on who gets funded. Let the athletes determine who makes teams and gets funding through performance results in trials or championship races. At the very least select our national champs and record holders - it's not as hard as people are making it.

it's not as hard as Speed River cronies are making it.
Fixed that for you.

Any intelligent poster will understand winning an age group cross country race has nothing to do with earning carding money. Hendrikx is no more entitled to carding than the Canadian College or Alberta high school xc champs.
The Quest for Gold criteria is clear and allows athletes to select themselves. For some reason, Speed River athletes needed Additional Ministry Cards, special treatment for a special club.
It will be interesting to hear what was involved in getting this special treatment.
Yah then my boi Justyn mf Knight needs to get carded too boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy NC double mf AAAAAAAAAAAAA boyyyyyyyyyyyyy all day errry day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No need to 'look forward' to it as the criteria has been publicly available for several months:

You do realize that Wodak missed out on Sport Canada carding, which is a national operation and nothing to do with the provincial Quest For Gold funding that is being discussed on this thread?
(Kind of funny also that you complain Wodak didn't get funding because she didn't actually run the national championships but then say athletes should determine who gets funding by competing in national championships. You need to work at getting your argument more coherent and focused.)
