How many? Geb, Tergat, Bekele didn't medal in the full Thon. Who was the last person to do it?
Rupps chance?

Don't think any man has done it since Carlos Lopes 1976, 1984. Don't know about women.

I believe Lopes was the last person to do it. Viren tried but failed to medal in the marathon. Zatopek did it. As did Mimoun of France. I am sure there are others from way back in the day.
Hannes Kohlemainen won the 5 and 10 double in 1912 and the Marathon in 1920.
Okay we're up to 5:
Hannes Kohlemainen
Alain Mimoun
Emil Zatopek
Mamo Wolde
Carlos Lopes
Kohlemainen also won the Cross Country race in 1912.
Albin Stenroos. Bronze in the 1912 10k, gold in the Marathon in 1924
What exactly is a full oly thon
I know these don't fit the criteria, but they are interesting (about the topic) nonetheless:
Viren placed 5th in his first (and maybe only?) marathon in '76 after winning his 4th Gold in the 5k ... the day before!!
He also DNF'ed the marathon in 1980 after placing 5th in the Moscow 10k in 27:50, 8 secs behind Yifter. So in '76 -- 1st / 5th and in '80 -- 5th / DNF. That was his 7th Olympic race (the dnf).
John Treacy placed 7th in the 5k in Moscow and 2nd in his first-ever marathon in LA (and placed 9th in the 10k in the SAME Olympics). He also placed 4th / 11th (5k/10k) in the 1978 Euro Champs. He placed 5th in 28:04 in the '86 Euro 10k.
Shorter finished 5th in the '72 10k (in his second AR of the Games in 27:51) and won the marathon just 7 days later.
Mamo Wolde placed 4th in the 10k in 1964. In Mexico City he placed 2nd in the 10k in 29:28 and then went on to become the second Ethiopian to win the marathon (7 days later). In 1972 he placed 3rd in the marathon. So he might be a better example than Lopes becasue he had a 4th / 2nd in the 10k and a 1st / 3rd in the Marathon ... in three different Games.

Nearly 100%
Rupp's 2:11 is a long way from the 2:05 that medal contenders have run- and nothing's promised in 26.2. But he seems to have the potential.
Paula....oh, never mind.
Has the potential to be great. Marathon was in the heat AND they didn't exactly push the pace, yet it was honest most of the time.
The marathon specialists have made the 10k, marathon double too hard. If anyone double medals in Rio, even bronze, bronze, that would be incredible.

I used to be able to do a 720 Full Oly Thon.
Is the Yifter 10K gold in 1980 the race Haile was listening to on his Dad's radio in Endurance?

Yifter only competed in two Olympiads.
It would be unlikely that Haile was listening to the Munich games even though he was 10 years old in 1972.
Another close but no cigar... Karel Lismont of Belgium ran in the '72, '76, '80 &'84 marathons getting silver in Munich and bronze in Montreal. He ran the 10,000 in '76 & '80 without finishing in the top 10 either time.
For the women, it looks like the feat has not been accomplished (yet).
To the best of my knowledge there have been very few attempts by medalists of either race to toe the line in the other race. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Deena Kastor may be the only Marathon medalist to have ever been entered in an Olympic 10,000. Grate Waitz (2nd-1980) ran the 1500 in '76 and Tatayana Petranova (3rd-2012) ran the steeple in 2008. Thought I could find a Lorraine Moller trail there somewhere but 4 "OLY THONS" seemed to be her legacy.
For 10,000 medalists... Liz McClogan (2nd-1988) finished 16th in the Atlanta
Marathon. Gete Wami (3rd-96 & 2nd-2000) dnf'd in the Beijing 26.2. That leaves Shalane Flanagan (3rd-2008) as the standard bearer here with her 10th place finish in London.
