Opinions on Rupp's ripped up Jersey. I see the heat control point, but honestly I didn't like it.

If he and his coach were so concerned about ventilation, why didn't he just wear the sports bra top, like the women?
Otherwise, he just looked like a grown man trying to pull off the edgy-teen look, crossed with an athlete and a secondhand hand-me-down.
It's too bad Rupp doesn't have a sponsor that makes a singlet that is suitable for hot-weather marathons.
He probably didn't want to let his wardrobe cause a distraction and since he is not so caught up in what other runners would think about what he wears like LRC posters he went old school and cut holes in singlet.

If he wasn't caught up in what others think of what he wears, he would have gone with the women's top.
But, like most of us, he didn't want to look weird by breaking social norms, so he didnt. Instead he cut holes into his singlet, which was less weird looking.
He didn't wear a women's top because it wouldn't fit properly and be uncomfortable to run in.

It's amazing how Kappa couldn't make a jersey that was ventilated enough for hot weather in 1984 and Nike still can't make one. You would think technology would have advanced in that long.

Doubt if he would really care what you think.
You mean to say you don't do anything that some might consider weird before racing.

I've had that style for years, accidentally. People are going to start calling me a Ruppian now. Ugh.
Not that he should have, but I don't think wearing a women's top for two hours would have even been functionally better. A singlet should breathe, but it should also keep the sun off and even reflect away some of the sun's rays. The women's getups, I think, were style over function.
I think he's untouchable but very poor form to his sponsor. Nothing says this singlet isn't good enough like punching a bunch of holes in it.
