2:18.7 is not that fast.
3:28 pace, but for only 2/3rds of the race distance.

I've been rooting for this guy ever since his sophomore year at Oregon. Have talked to him several times. His main issues are in his head. He's his own worst enemy. I hope he has placed those issues behind him. He's always had the ability, just has to believe in himself. I wish him all the best.
The series of injuries Wheating had over the last 4-5 years weren't in his head. A positive attitude does not magically fix a tweaked hamstring or plantar fascia tear. The thing with Wheating is his emotions are on display which shares the roller coaster ride that is the experience of being a professional runner.
Well first of all I don't get where you got 3:58 from. He ran a 3:39 1500 almost a month ago, which was the world leader for a couple weeks and is still #5 in the world now. Normally nobody goes faster than 3:35 or 3:34 in an indoor season and that never happens until later in the season. I think he's in great shape, and notice that the last time he ran indoors was leading up to his monster 2010 summer.
3:39.8 which equates to 3:57.3 mile. Not that great.
Chris O'Hare has already run 3:54 for the mile this season if you remember and nobody is saying low 3:30's for him!
It's February. He's 6'5 on a 200 meter track. Made 2:18 look like a jog. Barring injury, he will be in the mix this year.

Awww bologna... Hicham El G never ran faster than 1:47.18 in an open 800 meter race and Bernard Lagat never ran faster than 1:46.00. I agree with the mile times mentioned but everyone always thinks a world champion 1500/miler needs 1:43 speed.
Until EPO came along, the top milers from about 1970 on for the most part needed 1:45 speed to win major titles. It's always the guys who lack speed trying to find ways to root for people with no wheels. lol
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
