She's just a little too cute for serious marathon. Today was a serious marathon, not a downhill wind-aided.time trial.

She promised to start the marathon, not to finish it.

As someone who donated to this I can say I was a little shocked to not see her in the results but that doesn't mean I think she should have to refund the money. Its a race, stuff happens. I didn't really think she would ever make the team but still wanted to support someone from my state.

She should refund people based on being a fraud. What a joke.

Do any of you drive rental cars differently that you drive your own car?

In the same way that you treat stuff better when you have to pay your own money for it (or when it's actually "yours"), I wonder if it was easier for her to drop out knowing that it wasn't costing her anything out of pocket...

When people give to ANY gofundme campaign, or the like, do they really expect to ever get their money back? I mean, if she had finished the marathon, the result it the same for the donor.

I want to know same thing. Hotel & airfare max a couple grand. Why would an athlete need that kind of money for the trials? Unless she took time of work to train for the trials.

Let's say you started a GoFundMe to raise money to make a video game or make a pod cast show. You raise more than enough funds and start with the best intentions but end up quitting halfway through and never finish it. You keep all the money raised (in this instance she probably had a ton left over) without ever doing what you raised the money to do. You have pretty much lied and stolen the money from the community of people who supported you and sent money to cover the costs. It may not be illegal but it is certainly unethical and the complete opposite of how you are supposed to use those kinds of sites. I know a DNF is part of racing but in the context of the way she raised the money and how much money raised it seems pretty fishy to me. As someone outside her circle of friends and supporters.

The whole point of crowd funding is you're not guaranteed a result. Everyone is aligned for the same goal, but sometimes that goal isn't achieved, so is life.

Article says she plans on being back in 2020 - probably will need a lot more for four years - get the checkbooks out

Looks like she raised over $17k. That should fund her for a year or more, there's no way she spent more than $1500-$2000 to travel to LA and stay a few days. Probably a lot less than that.

An Agents job is to bring in money. Thinking big, outside the box is essential to keep many of our next tier runners in the sport The 100th highest PGA money earner through Feb 14th (yes, that's 6 weeks of golf) is $222,000. The question is not why does Clara need this money. The question is why don't more elite runners make more for their effort and talent.

Read deeper into this. What is the cost to go to Altitude to train. Missed Work. Massage, Physical Therapy. Where does it say that she is finished running and needed the money to spend a few days in a hotel and a flight.

Maybe a lot of shoe companies should be asking for a refund. Weren't there around 110 dnf between the two races?
