Indeed, the plan for Desi worked perfectly. Train to 95% and save her for the main event. Seems Cragg didn't have to go too deep into the well so she should be in a good place too.
Shalane has some work to do, hope she can recover well.
3 talented women on this team is exciting, wish we had a deeper men's field.
It's unfortunate that the men's team doesn't represent 3 x Olympic medal contenders as the women. Less Rupp, why isn't the United States capable of scaling 5K/10K/XC talent to the marathon -- think Bobby Curtis, Sam Chelanga, et al? With all due respect to Meb and Ward, there's no way they'll have the required turnover to compete at the international level. In essence, we have a Superstar and 2 x Brian Sell's on the team. No doubt, today's results should have given folks like Lagat, Ben True, Hassan Mead, Ryan Hill and Garret Heath cause to pause & think: maybe I should have gone for the double as well?
