I have never watched the movie.
Actually they stopped running when the money ran out, ended up on public assistance started doing crack and both are deceased. Sad story

Forrest never said he ran non-stop, just that he "had run for 3 years, 2 months, 14 days, and 16 hours"
He also said, "When I got tired, I slept. When I got hungry, I ate. When I had to go, you know, I went."

0.5 mile per hour = 84 mpw. Math may not lie, but people do tend to exaggerate.

Got'em!!
I was running on the sidewalk near home a couple of weeks ago and could hear a truck approaching from behind me. It slowed until it was level with me, the window came down and the fat guy behind the wheel shouted "Run, Forrest, Run".
"1994 just called, it wants its joke back. Now you better put your foot down, my good man, the donut shop closes soon!", was the witty and cutting reposte... that I made in my head about a mile down the road.
At the time I think I managed, "That movie was about ten years ago, you fat pr*ck"
