Also, what if the person is super overweight and runs 6:45. Would you suddenly discount their potential because their mile time is "too high"? I have also seen runners who have run sub 5 off of 0 training whatsoever. They trained decently well and never got below 4:35, some people may have a very high baseline but don't adapt to training stimulus very well.
Define "no training." Most talented kids play other sports that include running - which is training...
Now, if you find a bookworm who doesn't ever leave the house, but runs a sub-6 in the 4th grade...
