The document describes Dragon Boat as a "revolutionary system that will automate the entire international supply chain and eliminate much of the legacy waste associated with document handling and freight booking."
Haha! Inside the cult, this is a brilliant idea. And then they smash against the giant brick wall, Customs, in the real world.
Whomever dreamed this one up should just leave now, or hang it on a lower level employee.
Best international shipper I ever had was USPS.

Fvck what you heard! It's what you're hearing! Listen,
FedEx gon give it to ya
Fvck wait for Amazon to get it on its own
FedEx gon deliver to ya
Knock knock, open up the door, it's real
I didn't read the article, but wouldn't it be funny if UPS and FedEx refused to do business with Amazon? I know that Amazon makes up a big part of their business, but they could crush Amazon right now if they wanted.
UPS and FedEx are great companies. Can't believe you say they are crappy.
The improvements in shipping the last 20 years are impressive.
I see why Amazon wants to do it on its own, especially since its margins have been pretty poor. If shipping is 20% of an order and you shave 30% of the cost of that, that saves you 6%.

I understand why you're saying this, but I think the reason people will always root against these companies isn't because of UPS or FedEx as a company, it's an issue with the employees of UPS and FedEx. I live in a condo area and when the delivery guys come they throw everything out of their trucks (yes, actually throw, except for heavy things) onto the grass before bringing the items to people's door. I would wager that over half of UPS and FedEx's customers have seen a delivery guy throw a package onto a porch or lawn.
This isn't even getting into all the stories of UPS and FedEx employees stealing merchandise that "falls off the truck".

And you think these things won't happen with Amazon's delivery service?
The infrastructure and logistical hurdles Amazon will need to overcome are tremendous. It's easier to be a shipping company that branches out into warehousing (as UPS is currently doing with great success) than the other way around.
Amazon isn't going to replace other companies for delivery to the home. This appears to be about Amazon improving their internal shipping.
Amazon employees steal or try to steal merchandise from the warehouse. It's really weird that they think that they can get away with it. There was one case where a worker got fired for taking a slim jim out of a package and eating it. Or something like that. There isn't a month that goes by in the warehouse where somebody isn't fired for stealing stuff.
One thing that might be improved with having its own delivery service is returns. If they can just take the item at somebody's door and the customer doesn't have to go to the post office and box it up, that can be a big thing.

Wejo-my experiences with both companies couldn't be more different. I find them both to be incompetent messes. I bought and sold vintage musical instruments/equipment for the better part of 20 years and can't even begin to detail the amount of lost/damaged items while shipping with both companies.

I have to agree. I've actually had much better success with (gasp!) USPS than the other two companies. USPS is much cheaper as well.

usps is cheaper and delivers faster. Now I only go to fedex or ups if I have to actually drop something off with a live person and the post office is closed (its hard to get there if you have a job) or I need to overnight something. I think ups and fedex do a better job at next day delivery than usps, but its rare that I or anyone really need that.

Wow!
I deal with UPS and FedEx quite a bit and have never seen that. Which doesn't mean is has never happened, but there is a difference between it being a normal practice as you describe.

One of the few times I can agree with wejo hah! Yes, they are great companies. Very dependable. Use them every day. They are super.
