Heading to Los Angeles to watch the trials this week. Any suggestions on good places to run?
I'm staying pretty close to downtown, but am open to any places worth checking out. Thanks!

Griffith Park is good and relatively close to Downtown -- and you can get there on the train if you don't have a car.
I don't live in L.A. but visit often. Griffith Park was a good suggestion lots of trails. I would recommend visiting the visitor center if you need additional info. I do 5k races each year that run through Elysian Park. I like running there, the course I run starts at the LAPD Academy across the street from Dodger Stadium and runs around that area. It's a little hilly if you like that. Santa Monica or any of the beaches are nice. Also, don't know where you are from but maybe run the city. Grand Ave is a nice street to run. You can see some beautiful buildings on that street. If you like a little grittier, Broadway has the old theatres but it's crowded during the day and like any city you have to be aware of your surroundings. If you get a chance Clifton's Cafeteria is on Broadway. Well worth the visit. If watching the race from Exposition Park, you can run there and around USC. Finally, not race related but if you go to Chinatown after the trials, the Chinese New Year Parade is at 1pm. It's loud and if you don't like fire crackers don't go to that. Enjoy your time in LA and remember that the Metro light rail system can take you lots of places. if you want to explore.
Palos Verdes is a drive but worth it. Will Rogers State Park.
Figueroa from Olympic down to Century is a good scenic, urban challenge.
Griffith is nice. Will Rodgers is also nice if you don't mind the drive (and if you don't park in the park proper - super expensive).
Here's my copy/paste from a thread yesterday:
Arroyo Seco starting from the north end of the Rose Bowl would be my suggestion. You can follow the trail over the Devil's Gate Dam and through Hahamonga Watershed Park (past NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab) and along the Gabrielino Trail into the Angeles National Forest. The trail dead-ends at the Brown Mountain Dam at the moment, but it's good for 11-12 out and back. You can add on on the trails circling the Rose Bowl if you need more mileage.

Alternatively, you can start from the same place and take the right fork once you're on the Gabrielino Trail (see the second map) in the ANR and head up the El Prieto if you want to climb. It spits out at a fire road leading up to Brown Mountain for about 16 out and back if you go to the top of the mountain.
