I am in my 5th week of battling the dreaded PF. For a long time I wrote Mizuno Wave Inspires but transitioned slowly over last Spring - Summer to Altra Provisions 2.0 and Impulses - I am 6-3 , 200, relatively flat feet. I thought I made the transition to zero drop pretty well and ran a marathon in Nov without issues. I would occasionally feel some left heel pain but it would go away rapidly with ice, night splint- the usual. I didn't run much after my race and gradually increased mileage in December however heel started to bother me more consistently. This last month has been rough. I have backed off on my miles, done the stretching, icing, strengthen, saw a podiatrist who confirmed the diagnosis with ultrasound. I got a steroid injection which helped for about a week . I went back to a heel drop shoe ( tried both my inspires and Saucony guides) which made it worse. The crazy thing is I feel better when I walk barefoot and worse when I wear anything with a heel which is counter to conventional wisdom , yet developed the PF in zero drop shoes.
My foot doesn't feel too bad right out of bed which is different as well, only after I have been in shoes or ran more than 2 miles. I am waiting on some green superfeet and hoka bondi wides coming this week to give a try. I wear a size 14 and tried a pair of slightly smaller superfeet in a local sporting goods store ( didn't have my size) and they felt pretty good . My hope is the Hokas are a compromise between the altras which I think I used to but may have caused the PF and the 8mm drop Saucony's which I just can't tolerate.
Any thoughts are appreciated
