4/8, but mostly 8
I don't think it matters - your 4 and mile are completely average compared to that 8 time.
400-800, but if you focused more on endurance you could probably break 2.
What's your 5k pr? or 2mile?
I have a similar question -- This is my first year as head coach of both XC and Track teams at my school. I have two young ladies who im having difficulties placing in events....which event group would they best be suited?
8th grader
200 - 27.50 (Split)
400 - 1:02.30 (Open indoors yesterday)
800 - 2:34 (last summer)
1600 - 6:06 (last summer)
3000xc - 13:00
Has more success in the 800 in age group races but I'm thinking should focus on the 400 until next year -- then can develop more aerobically during XC
7th grader
400 - 1:05 (open indoors)
800 - 2:38
1500 - 5:41
5000xc - 22:46

OP is 400/800. And 8th grader is 400/800 but more 800. 7th is 800/1500 but seems like she could become very good at many events
mile and 400 are pretty even. 800 is your best by far and you could focus on either side if you want. How good are you at cross/2 miles cause if you are decent at them then id say focus more on the mile but if you are awful there then go for the 400
My 5km pb is 17:34 on a relatively flat course.
Yeah OP, echoing everyone: 4/8, leaning more towards 8 than 4. You have both the speed and endurance needed to run under 2; if you sharpen up a bit and find the right race, you'll get it.
To the other coach: the 62/2:34/6:06 girl is a 4/8 runner, and the 27.5 200m in the early season is a really nice sign. She should be looking to go under 60 and right around 2:25 by the end of this season--possibly faster depending on how much prior training she's had.
With the other kid you'll just have to wait and see. 65/2:38/~6:00 is pretty balanced across the board, so train her as a true 800 runner and see whether speed or endurance develops more easily.
Thanks - That's what I was thinking .... They hate doing the strength work associated with the 8 ... They would rather do speed everyday but I'm trying to find ways to disguise it.

Purely using myself as a reference, you are way faster than me at 400 and 800 and I am faster at the mile. We'd probably have a race on our hands in a 1400.
55 / 2:06 / 4:38
So I'd say that you are a 400/800 person and I am an 800/1500 person.

400m time is easily the best
In my opinion -- 2:01.9 is much better than 53.7. Much, much better. Line up 100 random 15 year old boys and see how many can run under 54 compared to how many can run under 2:02. I bet it would be at least 5:1 ratio.
Last year in the UK the results of U17 age group athletes (male) were the following:
281 ran 53.72 or faster for 400m
149 ran 2:01.9 or faster for 800m
288 ran 4:22 or faster for 1500m (4:43 equivalent)
Make of that what you will.
53.7 = 2:07, and that is off a masters calculator.
I'd bet nearly all (if not all) 2:01 800m kids can run under 54 in the 400. It would not be the same reversed.
To the OP. Your 800 m time is the best by quite a bit. However, I'd say you'd have the most success in the 1600 m with proper training. You probably need to have sub 50 speed to be very competitive in the high school 800 m. Depends on what your goals are. Most kids that are successful in the high school 1600 m will have 52 - 53 speed (or better).

More like 0:0 ratio if you are talking about 100 RANDOM 15 year-olds.
Unfortunately you are right. I guess you would have to line up the whole boys track and field team. I bet there would be some throwers and jumpers that could run 53.7. Very few if any 2:01 shot putters.
