It's simple. She's changed physically. It happens all the time to girls but we don't hear about it because most girls aren't running low 4:00s in the 1500m beforehand. I don't think there's much to salvage her career, I'm sorry to say.

Your intellectual assets are immense. Thank you for providing such a wonderfully articulate post. 11/10
I hope so. She is one of the most unlikable US runners.
She reminds me of Michelle Duggar (who I hate) for some reason.

nike and al sal are poison to her.
she loves running and the professional approach is like, gag me with a spoon.... too serious, to anal, too antisocial.
i would have liked the al-sal program, but the running itself is better done with the africans. americans over think. actually you don't want to be thinking at all. that is the beauty of the sport. most westerners are blind, africans get it, thais get it. it is a hideous condition, 10000 hours meditation, courses, and trips to gods country and these people seldom get it. like a hard core crack head, they just gotta keep "thinking", bla bla bla.
you just f***kin run, kick ass and enjoy.

History has also shown that if you stick with it a couple years, your body adapts and overcomes any of these changes you are referring too.
She could also be overtrained and not able to adapt to the workload she is doing or she could be training hard on purpose not caring about times now with the intent to peak at the trials.
Not sure what happens to these NOP athletes, but they are hard to root for, not likable and give terrible interviews, never seem happy, sketchy details about training?????
The opposite are the NB athletes, like Conley, D'Agostino, Simpson, they seem happy and engage the interviewer and want to talk about their training, etc.

Maybe they aren't training, just eating.

NOP seems even estranged from other Nike athletes. I mean Centro had no idea that Blankenship was a rabbit? Clearly a lack of even simple communication.
Nobody has ever accused any NOPer of overthinking. elfie rupp is practically brain dead. mo, hasay and centro are all mental midgets. cain is a complete ditz.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to interact with you on a daily basis. Like that mouse in your mothers basement.
If she really wants it, she'll be back when she adapts physically. That looks like it is going to take a few years.

My thoughts exactly.

I bet for every success story, there are also 10+ flame outs. This is especially true among the 13-18 year old crowd. 13/14 year old phenoms becoming also-rans by age 17/18 as the hips come in and the weight packs on
FWIW, I've heard Salazar (and other members of NOP) speak on multiple occasions and they've been very open about their training. Have you ever heard Wetmore discuss his training? Schumacher? There are far more private coaches than Salazar.
I, for one, hope Cain finds her way back, even if it's a few years down the road. I don't understand how so many on here seem to find joy when someone isn't running well.
I think she'll be OK. If she's smart, she's building base and looking at a 4 year plan for 2020. Wonder what her contract with Nike looks like. Other athletes have thrived after leaving that environment.

I agree with not understanding why people seem to find pleasure when certain athletes are struggling. Personally, I feel sorry for her and hope she turn things around. Btw, female endurance athletes will usually hit a wall around 15; however, if they continue train hard, they can delay it for a couple of years until around 18/19. The ones who take the hit at 18/19 and continue to stick with it often turn out OK; however, if a young lady continue to push so hard that the body does not go through maturation, they are usually done, as-in out of the sport by there mid-20s. I would not be surprised to see Cain setting PRs in 2-3 if she can stick with it.
I find no joy in her abysmal performances of late, just perplexed at the fact she is running 4+ seconds per lap for a mile slower than a couple of years ago???
All I stated was that the NOP athletes do not seem happy and like they are not having fun.......
Centro seems pretty happy.
What we can learn from Cain is that collegiate running is important. I hope Hunter goes through the NCAA system even if it looks like he could make money right away as a pro. We see a lot of flash in the pan Africans too, but I hope Cain can return to form.
