Cabada confirms that he'll be trying to set a PB at the trials, going after his previous mark of 2:11:36. Seems to be the conclusion to a long line of questionable decisions made by him leading up to LA 2016.
Well, if nothing else this affirms that the trials will be a fast one (as much as the course will allow for anyways) such as has been the general consensus for a while now.
Perhaps between Cabada and a few other courageous (other adjectives come to mind) racers e.g. Estrada, Meb who are among those likely to give a hard effort from early on, the pace will be hot enough to push Rupp to a fast time. Just speculating, but say things are rolling at 2:10 pace or faster for long enough, I could see Galen putting 2 minutes on the next guy by the finish a la Ryan Hall at the 08' trials and running a 2:08:xx - 2:09:xx for a nice little debut time.
Thoughts?
