Dude was on fire for a hot minute.
When was his last race ? He must be injured as I have seen no results for months when he was previously tearing up the road circuit.
He decided he doesn't want to do it.
He would be unlikely to make the team, and he may see an opportunity to win a major US Championship (US XC) given how many of the usual top competitors won't be there. Seems sensible to me.
He has to run every USATF road Championship to put food on the table. How athletes get contracts (senior year college) and then can never move up (or even down in some instances) is very, very unfair.
The message board would be shocked if they knew how much/how little/comparatively people make. That's why all these groups have started up and even there the shoe companies have muscled in.
