I'm 33, looking to break 18-minute 5K. I currently wear a New Balance 860 for everything but was wondering if switching to a lighter, faster shoe would help. I have a very mild overpronation in one foot and even milder one in the other. I would prefer New Balance. Thank you.
Go to a running store and try on several different brands and models. Your preference for New Balance is nothing but a feeling as all shoes are so different from brand to brand and model to model. You might miss out on something great in another shoe. Both of my kids (one in college, one in high school) wear training shoes that are a different brand from the spikes they race in.
Why not continue to train in the New Balance shoes you like and then find a racing flat for races?
Again, you might land on New Balance, but you should open your mind to other possibilities.
