Done with exams so am posting this now. Also I changed my name from Work it to CanadianRunnin, so I'm not a knew poster or anything.
6K XC PR: 20:27 (16:55-17:00 5K based off of conversion calculators)
Next Race: Likely indoor track meet-end of february
Goal Race: track season (mile/2 mile)
Sunday: 1.5, stopped early due to pain in heel/arch
Monday: rest, maybe could’ve run without too much pain but wanted to try to get rid of the issue, as it’d been nagging/preventing me from running faster for a few weeks
Tuesday: 6 easy (6:59-did some speed play/pickups at a few points, not structured whatsoever)
Wednesday: 7.2 easy (7:15-had snowed, so some icy/snowy parts)
Thursday: 6 easy (7:28)
Friday: Early PM: 7.2 easy (7:30)/evening: short speed workout*
Saturday: 11 mile long run (7:20-7:50->7:00)
Total: 43, almost all in 5 days
This week ended up going decently after a rough start. The arch/heel pain actually hurt while running so I stopped and rested, as I’d been limping on it for a little while and wanted to get rid of it. Felt pretty much 100% after those 2 days.
*Speed workout: I was running on a paved 310-315 meter loop for this, so I just made it simple and did 8x1 lap on, 1 lap off. This loop had a gradual decline near the start and a sharper incline at the end, and there was 1 sharp turn that made you go wide/slow down. I ended up hitting 60’s consistently. This is fairly similar to what I was doing when I did shorter speed stuff in the summer, but probably a slightly lower effort level. It was tough during the rep but I recovered pretty easily during the recovery.
The long run was one of my favourite runs I’ve had in a while, it was very enjoyable (ran it at night) and didn’t worry about pace at all.
Training should start picking up in the next few weeks, but my true season doesn’t start until early April (maybe a few indoor meets before then), so I’m not going to work too hard like I did last year, when I peaked early for sure, was tired by the last few weeks (only 1/5 races in last 3 weeks was very good).
Didn’t post last week, ran 54 miles in singles but nothing exciting to report.
