Over a month ago I started having tightness/soreness in my upper calf of my right leg. I took 5 days off and then continued running. I ran for a week then took 3 more days off when the tightness returned. I then ran for another week until I had an MRI done.
I found out that I have a "small proximal stress fracture" on my upper tibia (under my knee to the inside) but the doctor said I could continue running (short distances/doubles) and cross training. I was skeptical so I took 8 days off and sought a second opinion. The second doctor basically said that same thing and recommended that I just take low doses of aleve or ibuprofen before runs. He said since I am not having bone pain in the area of the fracture, it is ok to run on.
I started running two days ago and the calf tightness came back. I really don't know if I should keep running or not. I have been biking, doing yoga, core, and lots of walking coupled with calcium supplements for a month. I am registered to run my first Boston Marathon in April so I am in a time crunch. I was hoping to run sub 3:10 but obviously that is not an option now. Please, dose anyone have advice?
