Are "flat-earthers" an actual thing?

Wait wait wait. Are we moving on and changing the subject to "Motion parallax" because you are afraid to answer the questions and don't want to admit you were wrong because it questions your own beliefs? When is a flat earther going to do the mountain top experiment that Islam astronomers did 1000 years ago to accurately measure the radius of the earth? It's easy and definitive: 0 deg means flat earth, while (from 10000 ft) 1.7 deg means globe earth. It is far easier than launching a camera in a balloon. Rapper B.o.B. could have done that. Rob Skiba is a bad scientist. The camera is not in motion, but wildly swinging around. All of the motion we can see is not motion at all, but distortion coming from the wide angle lens on the Dogcam. It's this same distortion that causes the horizon to appear convex, concave, and flat at different moments. If we were watching "motion parallax", we would expect to see almost no motion at the quite far distance of 400 miles, even less at 4000 miles, and even less at 93,000,000 miles. This is something all flat-earth experts on the "Law of Perspective" should understand. So when Rob Skiba says, we should expect to see a huge motion parallax, because of the great distance of the sun, he is admitting he really doesn't understand what motion parallax is, even after explaining that far things move less, and why it isn't happening at all in a wildly swinging but stationary balloon 140,000 ft above the earth, because it is stationary. Steve Torrence expects to see a left to right curvature of the earth, from a horizon which is the same distance from the camera at all points along the horizon, therefore experiencing the same 8" per mile squared drop as a function of distance from the viewer. This again demonstrates a wrong expectation of what the globe model predicts from a camera in a balloon 140,000 ft above a 6371 km radius globe. What we can clearly see from the video, is that the horizon is not at eye level, but always visibly below. A globe-earth predicts 6 deg below eye level. This video, with the horizon visibly below eye-level, and a relatively small view of the earth, supports a globe earth. Rob Skiba also talks about a hot spot from the sun being a local phenomenon, and we shouldn't expect to see it from a 93,000,000 mile away sun. This again is a wrong expectation of good science. If the surface were a perfectly smooth mirror, the hot spot would be a perfect image of the sun, whether 400 ft, 4000 miles, or 93,000,000 miles away. A curved surface from a globe earth would be slightly larger than the sun, while a flat surface would be exactly the same size. Any pondering about the mystery of the hotspot, and conclusions about distance, is again another rather blatant misunderstanding of good science.

Easily-trolled people scour the internet for counter-proof that the Earth is round (which Flat Earth Troll knows, but that is beside the point). This is exactly what Flat Earth Troll wants you to do. He knows the Earth is round. You are being stupid.(repeat step 2).

4. Although some understand it as a troll, many do not and can't resist, as he seems to be good at the troll, coupled with the fact that many people are apparently stupid and don't see it as what it is: a never ending, never resolved argument that is the very essence of a troll.

5. Thread disappears for a few months. Flat Earth Troll resurrects it, often by pretending to be someone who wants to argue with Flat Earth Troll. (repeat step 1).

Addendum: Although I have pointed out what this thread is all about in plain English, Flat Earth Troll will still, incredibly, be able to bury the post and continue making stupid people engage in the never-ending argument (see above posts).

... and for Rayo and Legit, who keep saying "thanks for bumping the thread".... you both know I never bump it. I just reply when it's already at the top. But you knew that, just like you know the Earth isn't flat. :) I'm happy you said that though, it shows I'm irritating you both when you do. :)

Here's what Abu Rayhan al-Biruni did 1000 years ago: To measure the height of a mountain, from two points at sea-level: He first calculated the height of the mountain by going to two points at sea level with a known distance apart and then measuring the angle between the plain and the top of the mountain for both points. He made both the measurements using an astrolabe. He then used the following trigonometric formula relating the distance (d) between both points with the tangents of their angles (θ) to determine the height (h) of the mountain: h = d * (tan(θ1) * tan(θ2)) / (tan(θ2) - tan(θ1)) To measure the radius of the earth from the mountain top of height (h): He then stood at the highest point of the mountain, where he measured the dip angle using an astrolabe. He applied the values he obtained for the dip angle and the mountain's height to the following trigonometric formula in order to calculate the Earth's radius: R = h * (cos θ) / (1 - cos θ)

A pram is a baby stroller. Your post reminded me of a funny story; my parents are from Australia. When we moved here my Mom gave birth to my little brother. Australians call strollers "pushers."
