Considering that Brazier supposedly went through 600 in 1:18, he might not be that intimidated.

If you have access to watchespn you can watch the replay of the meet. It should be around the hour 40 mark.
Maybe he won't be intimated but Oregon will still spank Texas A & M indoors and outdoors GO DUCKS :)

WOW. Look at the splits too, he went through in 1:18 for 600 and ran a 26 from 400 to 600! This kid is a machine and he beat Chad Noelle (NCAA mile champ) by almost 8 seconds! I'm literally speechless.

???????????????????????
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Checked him out. - if he gets the 400 down to 46x this spring, then the guy could make the OG team.
But as far as the athlete is concerned, if he can make the bigs without killing himself, then go for it. but if would be a disaster to have a good college season and then push the luck too far. you do not want to push your luck extending your season to far.
Thinking about it, if he makes the OG team, per chance, the idea would be not to win, but have fun, absorb the experience the big games and use it later on. unless coach is pretty sure he can medal.
OK, we are getting too far ahead. 46 and 144 in the 400/ 800 is the next step and maybe get to the NCAA finals.
The progression shows that he never worked too hard young, everybody can run 207 at age 16.
Which means he won't crash and burn soon.
Guy reminds me of Ashton Eaton. focused.

1) Reminiscent, for better or worse, of German's 3:55 solo.
2) It's been said before, but his build and style harken to Rudisha. The American Rudisha?
With a name like that he'll have a fork stuck in him in no time. I predict he never breaks 1:43.

How many top 18-or-under east Africans even try? The NCAA and indoor track are not a big deal to them.
Modern indoor tracks are not so slow, rather few people want to run fast in winter. Those who do are usually peaking early and fail to improve much outdoors.
A really quick Kipketer-level indoor 800 is long overdue, considering all the 3:50 miles and sub 7:30 3000's lately. There is just no interest from the elites.
Agreed this is very, very exciting. But let's respect this young man by spelling his name correctly, (especially in the title of the thread!):

You're welcome.

Great for Brazier, an old freshman who ran blazingly fast in a no-competition race at a pointless meet at a meaninglless time of the year. He's going to find that going through the rounds and racing guys around his ability is a differnet ball game in the championship, assuming he isn't burned out or injured. Not saying he isn't very talented, but he's not the defactor winner, and clayton murphy is a far superior racer
He's not old for a freshman. He is turning 19 this year, same as 99% of current freshmen.
And you mean de facto, genius.
Sans footage from today's race, here is a vid from last spring. Note the wind and crappy track. He absolutely cruises a 1:48-low:
First of all he's on the young side for a true freshman considering he turns 19 in April. Secondly, you can say that this was meaningless but he did take down the reigning NCAA 1500m champ en route to an AJR. No hate necessary

Here is a good stat someone tweeted. All time junior 800m indoor list
1:44.35 Y Borzakovskiy
1:44.81 A Kaki
1:45.05 M Aman
1:45.93 @DonavanBrazier
1:45.96 T Kitum
All of them won medals
OMG? Really?
What is the OT "A" standard for 800m?
Now that's a great group to be in... wow. Looking lean and fast. He will only go faster. Going to be a great 2016.

Just to clarify, you have gone from:
"One can't count the number of guys who have done it."
to
"Oh, I was 100% wrong about my claim. How many even try though?
I hope you are able to see how ridiculous you look. You are usually better than this and I respect most of what you post.
Derrick Peterson's collegiate record of 1:45.88 still stands. Brazier ran 1:45.93.
And what did Peterson go on to win?
Basically, from the report, he indicates that Francique's instruction to go out in 51, which he thinks of as crazy fast, was responsible for his dropping so much time. And yes, in the picture, he looks very smooth and relaxed. He should raise his sights from the U.S. Junior team this summer to the Olympics, because he has a great shot at it and the Olympics come around only once every four years.
