Brenda just said on a Periscope after her workout she plans to "contest both" the 800 and 1500 at the Trials.
The workout, btw, was a 3 mile tempo in 14:59, 5 mins rest, and a 300m "tag" in 39.9.

Given how tough the 800 is and the relatively (emphasis on relatively) rough time she's had since winning bronze in Moscow, makes sense to me.
She recently ran a 24-second 200 in the last of a series of 200 repeats.
An ability to finish strong in the 800 and especially in the 1500 where the initial pace is slow will make it possible to do the double.
In the meantime, I hope she remains injury-free.
It may be possible wrote:

I'm just hoping she remains a major babe.
B-Mart can get much faster if she wore bun huggers a at least two sizes smaller and a top with thinner material that ruffles less in the wind.
... mean nothing in June.

She can barely run 14:59 for 3 miles
And why is she doing an all out 300m after a tempo run?
I will never understand her training

Agreed. That would be like Centro running a 13:30 "tempo"

Because that's all the hard and fast running she needs now. Dedicating a whole workout to such stuff is a waste of time in January.

R U saying barely because 14:59 is slow?
And the 300m all out is to simulate the end of the race and build lactic tolerance.
If it is a well "known" that most 800 races go out rather slow, and wait for kick time, why not string them out and hope to get rid of some of the kickers?
I've been coached by Mr Vigil and he explained the tempo run as a long, steady run, that should be performed at a pace that one can sustain for approx 75min (for men). so basically 25k pace, if you will. def slower than 1/2 marathon pace (as you could do 12-14mi tempos in his schedule), but a fair bit quicker than marathon pace. NOWHERE NEAR 10K PACE, let alone 5k pace. I love when runner basically race a 5k in practice, then try to pass it off as a "tempo." puhleeze, gimme a break. Now, call it a 3mi time trial, with a 300 added on, now you're telling the truth. semantical, I know, but still bugs me.
cool. great workout. doesn't mean a thing though. she gets too pumped up early and history tells us it's not a cgood correlationshe had an awesome late-winter/early spring season of workouts last year too and see how that one panned out for her in terms of racing when it mattersfrustrating

Do you realize Mr. Vigil is the one giving her the workouts? And this was and anaerobic tempo not an aerobic tempo. So the tempo you described is different than the workout performed by Brenda. Also Yes, the workout was probably near maximum effort but the workout wasn't an all out 3 mile. And running 90% in practice pretty much feels like race effort. So probably felt like all out but stil a workout non the less.
Give her a break. It's all in for her. What's the point of competing for having a consistent year. She is training to be competive on a global level. She is going for it. It worked in 2013 when she got bronze and has failed other years but I give her props for putting it all on the line.

When something seems too good to be true, it's usually not true.

No true, most 800s are not tactical
What I like about Brenda is her willingness to race different distances rather than focus exclusively on the 800.
Good point. I once ran 15:29 for a three mile time trial at a time when I could barely beat that on the way to a 5K in the low 16's. All it did was trash my legs.
She's savvy competitor. The two events are far enough apart that she could make the team in one or both. I was holding out for Maggie Vessey in the 800 and Anna Willard in the 1500, but I think that's not gonna happen.
3 mile hard runs are not uncommon for middle distance runners. They are done harder than a traditional tempo and are more specific to the demands of a middle distance race.
Lagat does a 6k hard run regularly in training.
I have an article from the British Miler's Club in 2009 in which he said he passed the 5k mark of this 6k run in 13:45.
