What evidence? And if you say the NT I'm going to beat my head against wall.
You can't square the genealogy circle. It is a contradiction. From Jeremiah 22:28-30: Is this man JECONIAH a despised, broken pot, an object no one wants? Why will he and his children be hurled out, cast into a land they do not know? O land, land, land, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Lord says: “Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime, for none of his offspring will prosper, none will sit on the throne of David or rule anymore in Judah.â€
Now let's have a look at Matthew 1: This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse,
6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife, Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, and Josiah the father of JECONIAH and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. After the exile to Babylon: JECONIAH was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, Zerubbabel the father of Abihud, Abihud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor, Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Elihud, Elihud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah."
Which is it? Was he cursed to never have children or is Jesus in his direct line of descent? The Bible can't be right about both. Additionally, if you are the product of being knocked up by God it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to list the lineage of your stepfather does it? Luke says Heli is Joseph's father; Matthew says Jacob. In Matthew's genealogy Joseph is descended through Solomon to David; in Luke, Joseph is descended through Nathan, another son of David. Which is it? Both can't be true.
As an aside Luke says that Shelah is the son Cainan and the grandson of Arphaxad, but Genesis says that Shelah is the son of Arphaxad. Which is it? Are both true simultaneously?
However, I know the apologist tap-dance on this, i.e. one of David's sons adopted his nephew, or that Matthew's lineage includes Mary's family but uses Joseph since it was a patriarchal society. But:
1. Analysis of the text doesn't provide any clues or support this *at all*.
2. For an inerrant document that's pretty damn murky and unclear.
