Hello,
How long did it take you to recover from a plantar tear?
I have found it really hard to get good medical help.
6 months and I am finally in a moon boot.
I saw someone who did that shock wave therapy to both feet x 4 lots
Then I had orthotics made up. I went into the podiatrist limping.
I learnt to strap my foot and do the exercises.
Then I tried oral steroids
Then I saw a physio weekly and she manipulated and did more shock wave therapy x 4 each foot.
Then I saw my GP and said I now want Cortisone under ultra sound please and he sent me off with a book and told me to ring another podiatrist.
So I went to another doctor and said 'i want an ultra sound please and I intend to keep doctor shopping till someone gives me a referral" He laughed and said he has never sent anyone for ultrasound for plantar fascitis.
Anyway I won and got the ultra sound which showed I had a TEAR in the right foot and the left foot just has straight plantar fascitis.
GP did a steroid with local into the right foot.
I then started to complain to the first podiatrist that they should have sent me for ultrasound and moon boot it if I was limping.
They are now bending backwards and ringing me with advice and apologies.
They said go see Paul Butterworth who is supposed to be the best.
I then go back to GP and ask for a care pan for 6 visits (costs less). He said he couldn't do it as he relies on his nurse to do them for him.
So I go back to the first GP (the one who gave me the book) and said caer plan please. Now I am in a moon boot that I sourced from a independent podiatrist up the street.
I told first GP I finally got an ultrasound off another GP. He gets annoyed/ angry with me and on about getting all these people involved.
I said I have to - as this is now chronic condition, I knew something was really wrong with the right foot and I was reading up on it and now directing my care as I should have received better care in the first place. I said the podiatrist who saw me for 15 minutes, in and out quick, was useless and did the wrong thing by me.
Anyway I got this first GP to write me a care plan for podiatrist.
WHY the hell couldn't the podiatrist send me for an ultra sound when I limped in there. I could not weight bear at the time.
And why couldn't the GP who I saw first send me for an ultrasound and give me the podiatrist referral then that day.
Why do I find it so hard to get proper medical guidance.
Incidentally i am a registered nurse, work full time and do ward work. We clock up a lot of km every shift.
Tonight I am now in a moon boot, have 2 weeks off work, am seeing new podiatrist next week.
6 months on and I think I am almost an expert on plantar fasitis, plantar fascotis (chronic condition) and plantar tears.
I believe GP's are over paid and I am living proof of it here as I have had to research and drive the treatment of my own medical condition and the GP's ego got in the way of proper appropriate care.
Any suggestions or comments please?
