I want to do a marathon in June, which gives me exactly six months to train. My PR is 3:01, and I got it a couple of years back, off 30-40 MPW training for three months (most was 30ish, max was exactly 40 for a couple of weeks). Since then I have not really raced, but have been training regularly, three to four times, per week. Just mixing up things, like short and long intervals (400 repeats up to 2K repeats), but no specific program and not so many long runs (some medium long runs of up to 15 miles once in a while, but mostly 10-14K runs). Apart from that I do bodyweight workout like pull ups, push ups, squats, abs, etc, and I am in the best shape of my life.
Now I want to start training for the marathon in June, and also signed up for a 10K in April and a half in May as preparation races (maybe will do few 5Ks in between as well). I am 40, almost no alcohol, good diet, sleep well, ...
Do you think this is doable with about 40-50 MPW? The reason I was limiting myself to 30 MPW during my previous marathon training was that it was easy for me to get injured. But since then I have been doing lots of yoga and also strength training, which gives me confidence to push up to 50MPW. But above 50MPW is gonna be a bit unrealistic for me considering my other commitments. I have JD's, Advanced marathon and the road running for serious runners books/programs, and have never really followed them to the tee, but would try to look into them seriously now.
Any suggestions are welcome!
Merry Christmas!
