Colonoscopy

I have chrohns and have had 4 colonoscopies. The procedure itself is a breeze, the prep the night before is a bit rough. But I ran the morning before..although keep in mind you can't eat all day so wouldn't do a long run. I definitely did not run the day of the procedure. And I wasn't allowed to run for 2 days after either..mainly because they found a polyp that had to be removed and didn't want excessive bleeding.

But your doctor may be different,

I have heard some run the day after. That's interesting you are doing a colonoscopy for low iron..do you have any GI symptoms?

They often provide instructions to not go running for a few days afterwards.

If you did 1:30 the next day you were probably just tired. Why did you do back to back races?

Why do people worry so much about missed days when they are already pretty worried that they have a serious illness?

Had colonoscopy at 7:00 AM ran easy 8 at 6 PM 51 years old. We are all different sounds like you have some more issues.

Had a colonoscopy in a Wednesday. Didn't run in Tuesday because, well I spent the day in the bathroom.

Wednesday no run.

Thursday ran easy 4.

Friday I 'tapered' for a Saturday race. Read I was lazy.

Saturday I PB'd (2000s PB) by over a minute. I was due.

I assume a colonoscopy that includes excising a polyp would get a different set of post-op instructions than a plain vanilla inspection.There is a good conversation about colonoscopy here

This was my experience as well except no polyps. Did an early morning run the day prior and after that I took it easy since you tend to have a low energy level due to lack of food. Had the procedure the next morning and I felt a little "off" the day after, probably due to the anesthesia, so I didn't run then either. Back to normal after that.

I might have overstated that. Races were a month apart and all the preparations were the same. I can tell you the exact day I hit the wall. Also, I made a typo in my OP. Meant to say the Doctor DOESN'T believe my low Iron and Anemia is could be solely caused by running. I have no other symptoms other than being tired, lacking concentration at work, sucking at running, and being really moody.

I had one just a few weeks ago. Mine was on a Monday morning at 8:00am. Only missed 1 day, Monday. Tuesday I had an excellent speedwork of 6x 800m.

The prep day, Sunday, I cut back my long run to just a 45 min super easy run as only clear liquids were allowed for the entire day, and the *real* prep began at 4 pm.

I had an early morning colonoscopy, and prep started 36 hours before, IIRC. I ran easy and short the day before (since I was already on a clear liquid diet) and then skipped the day of the colonoscopy. Back at it with an easy run the day after, and then a tempo workout the day after that.

My biggest advice? Margarita flavored shot bloks. You can eat them throughout the prep without screwing anything up, and they restore some of the electrolytes you lose from the prep. They also do a great job of killing the taste of whatever foul stuff you have to drink during the prep.

Best advice: save some of that day before prep liquid and when you return to work dose that irritating office witch's coffee with it and sit back on your clean as a whistle alimentary canal and watch the fun. That shite never gets old.

My procedure is at 2:30PM, and the doctor told me to start fasting 10AM the day prior. So I'll have to run in the morning. I'm guessing I can't run the day of the procedure.

I'm 33 year old male with low iron and anemia. Running times went from sub 80 min to half marathon to 90 min for the same overnight. Doctor is still looking for the problem. Does believe it could be from running. I have been taking about 90mg of Iron since mid Oct this year and am not feeling any better. However I have not other symptoms other than being tired constantly, low concentration, and moody.

You just have to put it behind you and move on.

I am having one in a few weeks. My surgeon is 73 yrs old. Should I be worried?

He didn't have many on line reviews (10) on one siie and he got 4/5 stars. On another 2 reviews with one loving him and one hating him.

I don't think the age of the surgeon matters. It's a simple procedure and there will be others looking on the computer screen with the surgeon. I had my second one last Tuesday morning, both surgeons (different Dr.s because of insurance changes) were in their 60s. I cut out nuts, seeds, raw vegetables, meat, and whole grains 3 days prior. The prep wasn't too bad and I'm sure my very clear colon helped make the test easy. I was able to exercise the morning before and the next day.
