I know most people on this forum believe that the beer mile is overhyped and a useless event. However, I want to discuss the current "world record" of this race. Lewis Kent has signed a professional contract with Brooks as a beer miler after running a 4:51.9 mile. As many know he is by no means an elite miler but certainly does well in this event. There was a lot of hype about him achieving this time and it was considered to be a big enough deal to receive a Brooks contract from it. However, this evening Kent ran a 4:47 beer mile in which destroys his previous world record by 4 seconds and the second place individual ran a 4:49 and broke it by two seconds. Is it just me or is this "world record" incredibly soft? How can some receive a professional contract off of what is proven to be a mediocre time? I need some clarity as to how Brooks will dish up some money to a novice runner.
