At the last XC race I attended, I inwardly laughed at the number of times I heard "pass him," "come on," "speed up," and the like. Quenton Cassidy feels the same way.
I know that when I race, I barely hear anything anyone says anyway, but then, I didn't grow up as a runner, so maybe I didn't learn to hear "coaching" while working above anaerobic threshold.
So, just curious, especially to current or former XC runners, but open to everyone: has anyone ever said/yelled something to you during a race that made a positive difference? Who said it? What did they say? (For that matter, have you ever heard something that HURT your performance during a race?)
Just curious.
