Thoughts? Predictions?
Well, it looks like Nick Hall is training for the 3k/5k based on his mileage on R2W. He'll probably run the mile at conference, but I imagine that's not going to be his focus nationally. Would've liked to see a Baum v Hall showdown in Kansas this year, but my guess is Hall will run the 3k since AU probably can't qualify a DMR this year and he's talking about trying to get a title.....which I don't think could happen if he ran the mile.
GV for the team title definitely. Ashland has a lot of talent/points gone from last year. As for distance events. Hall, Mach and Perez should mix it up in the Mile. The 3k depends on who runs it and who is doubling. For the 5k, I think it will be a battle between Panning, Ngandu and Bradley (unless he runs the 3k only). GVSU has to be the favorite in the DMR.
GVSU should be able to run a qualifier this year, so with that being considered I don't think they'll have much trouble winning the conference. Ashland is too weak to field a national caliber DMR like years past, and I don't expect much noise out of them for the team title either. If Potes has eligibility, which I think he might, they could scrape maybe 20-25 points together on the distance side (Hall - mile/3k, Knack mile/3k, Potes &Cutler 5k) on a decent day...potentially more. If I were coaching these gents I'd scrap the DMR completely and run scrubs instead. They need to focus on getting points fresh than trying to stretch their guys across the board and snag penny points in each event. Expect their throws to carry them
Tiffin will clean up in the sprints and will likely be a 4x4 contender. It'll be a battle between AU and Tiffin for second I think.
if ngandu is healthy i see no problem pulling off the 3k 5k double. i don't think gv can have 5 guys hit provo this year in either which might give some points over to Knack/Southgate and the other Saginaw transfer. I never put any hope in the malone men to have a track season. barnes will coast away with the 800.
tiffin will be gliac runner up but ncaa champs
I keep forgetting about Ngandu...he's something. Ryan Roush or however you spell it might have something. With such a bad Xc I feel like he should be able to at least run a few decent track races, but time will tell. GV may not have the depth to put a lot of guys in the 5k and double them, but the sprints/jumps/throws depth will get them the points they need to retain the title
Not sure how GVSU won't have depth. How about this? 5k- Panning, Cini, Flores, Bradley (maybe), Sharnas (if he gets provisional time), Orndorf (if he gets provisional time like last year). 3k- Bradley, May, Selner, Thorpe (possiblly, ran 14:46 5k last year and 4:17 1600m from last year). They may double someone like Panning or Bradley but honestly wouldn't have have to in order to get 3-4 scorers in each race with someone up with Ngandu in both races.
Lack of depth due to lack of provo times is probably what I'm referring to. They're obviously deeper than anyone else, but you can only run so many people per event.
Races at gvsu and svsu Friday

Any teams really opening up their distance squads this weekend? Meets?
Doubtful. SVSU ran their top guys last week (Southgate, Komph, Goforth) in the 5k. They ran around 14:46-14:47. GVSU ran Panning (14:15) and Cini (14:51). I haven't checked but I doubt you will see a lot of distance runners racing this weekend. But they'll be back in January!

This. Nick Hall will be debuting in the 3k tomorrow. Not sure about other Ashland runners.
Nick Hall racing unattached. Ran 8:17. There are no other Ashland runners to speak of.

8:17. Any other recent results I missed?
Not anything spectacular from I've looked at on Tfrrs, but I'm sure this board will be intrigued by Nick Hall's decision to red shirt the entire year. Not sure if it's true, but I heard it in passing and I figured I'd share.
He's getting faster without the extra weight holding him back anymore
We talking about the same kid? The one who opened his first race in a 4 second PR with no competition? If you're not going show respect for a young hard working kid, don't bash him for no reason. Tom Scott is very young but extremely knowledgable.
Also...he's unattached? Why aren't we talking about RELEVANT athletes for GLIAC this year.
Myles Pringle - woah.
Nick Hall was unattached for the opening 3k, has it actually been confirmed that he has red shirted the entire year?
For those of you saying Tom Scott has no idea what he's doing; You have no idea what you're talking about. 1:47 and sub 4. He also changed the culture and turned the Michigan Tech program around.
Look for Lake Erie to make big improvements this season. Lots of young talent and an experienced and smart coach in Grant Loftdal.
Ashland has some type of secret recruiting scheme. First Jordan Crayon.... Now Pringle. There's something to these guys with funny names.
