Do you feel that the boom in social media is not just correlated with the boom in hobby jogging but that it's actually causative?
My theory is that a lot of egotists want something to plaster all over FB etc. and so being able to boast about training for X, Y, or Z allows them a perfect opportunity. Plus now with the rise of 'selfies' it's only poured fuel on the fire since said jogger can now back up their 'achievement's with dozens of pics.
And of course the real icing on the cake is raising money for charity as this allows them to somewhat mask their own narcissism by doing something 'for a good cause'.
What ever happened to the altruistic, silent fund raiser?
It's only a theory but my guess is that if social media went tomorrow, hobby jogging would collapse.
Thoughts / altenative theories welcomed?
