Ive seen very little about her on MileSplit and the occasional result I've seen was very, very slow...what's up?

Seen with Kim Collins at Harper Collins.
Based on my vast experience with CA XC I would say she is home today celebrating Thanksgiving and on her way to Fresno tomorrow. You're welcome.

Been wondering the same (same goes for Fiona O'Keeffe's absence.) These two girls were NXN champion contenders but now are either MIA or running a lot slower. I'm guessing injuries?
It's very unfortunate as Destiny ran that 9:53 3200m just a few months back.
Shin splints for Collins and tendonitis for O'Keefe.
Collins had an extremely long track season ending in mid-July and then had a lot of pressure on her this XC season. She probably got out of rhythm with her team and the XC season in general because of this. She was still training for World Youth Champs for Track while her team had already begun their summer XC training. That put her about 2 months behind where she would have been had her season ended at the CA State Champs for Track.
...and Kevin Collins drinking a Tom Collins listening to Phil Collins @ Destiny USA.
I think Collins and Skyler Bollinger took it easy at southern sections. finished together as team's 6 and 7, 40 seconds behind #5

Definitely not. If you saw how Collins was pouting at the awards ceremony you'd know she wasn't taking it easy.
This early signing period is what happened to them...I believe both of these kids took 5 official visits. Squeezing that into 2 months while dealing with everything else involved in a kid's senior year probably beat the hell out of them. Maybe their coaches accounted for this & have purposely held them back & out of races to be coming on about this time since they haven't even raced their state meet yet...but neither have looked like their old selves yet this season.
I just looked into the milesplit database and her times don't look super terrible, but she doesn't look national top 10 right now.
The team could probably use her on her A game for NXN purposes.
I agree with the poster above regarding official visits. She has been all over the place - racing worldwide late into the summer and then taking officials to schools that weren't exactly around the corner. All of this takes a toll - particularly when trying to run 60mpw.
If you look around, you'll see a lot of the early signers are having lapses at their big meets. Several have announced injuries as reasons for not participating in NXN or FL.
I do wonder how much is injury vs being slightly off the mental game.
She just won CIF State D1...
1 Collins, Destiny Great Oak 1 17:09.4
2 Starn, Brooke Monte Vista 2 17:22.6
3 Moffet, Lauren Clovis North 3 17:23.3

Standing by that?
That is some serious sandbagging

I guess your interpretation of her "pouting" was incorrect as she trounced the competition today.
Well, she wasn't pouting today idiot. She was pouting when she had a bad day because that's all she had that day. When you have shin splints that's how it works. It's not her aerobic system that was the limiter, it was her skeletal system. Now that she didn't have to run down 3 steep hills her skeletal system is strong enough to keep up with the rest of her body.
The closer you get to a flat course the better she gets.
Why does an experienced runner like her get shin splints. makes no sense
I read somewhere that she'd pretty much taken the last month easy while resting her shin splints, and that's why she performed the way she did at SS Finals.
To then pull out the win at State is remarkable. Especially when you compare her to Fiona, who has also been on the DL for some time, and... didn't win.
It seems like the more likely scenario is Destiny totally sandbagged Finals, resting up for the win at state, and the month off for shin splints was an exaggeration.
There's a very effective exercise for shin splints, which an experienced runner might get, for instance, from building up the calves from achilles exercises or other things. I know, because I got them and then cast around on the Internet until I found this solution. You stand on a step with half the foot off the step and you rotate your foot up and down, leaving the heel on the step. Do many, many of these every day for a while, sometimes shifting to the left or right to work different parts of the anterior tibialis. Rest and ice didn't work for me but these work great. You can also get more muscle work from these by just extending your foot over a mattress edge and pushing your foot up and against the vertical side of the mattress when you're lying down. Even more effective. Tell her coach!
Fiona o'keeffe ran 17:42..not even in top 10...
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
