I was out for my local 5k turkey trot today and was making great time. After cruising through the 1-mile marker in 4:45, I saw a turkey out in the woods on the side of the street. I was in fourth place and had doubts as to whether I'd win, but I had to bring a turkey home to mom. I diverted my path to chase the turkey, but it was shockingly fast. I sprinted down a side street after it, slowly gaining ground, but was starting to get tired.
I was now in third place. The turkey came up to a gate and flew over it somehow, so I swam over the gate after it. A pit bull started chasing me, but I couldn't lose this chase. The turkey was now in second place, so I had to swim faster to catch up. My 400m split since the chase started was a good 65-high, trying to escape the turkey. Now I was really getting tired.
We came up to a lake and the turkey flew over as the pit bull latched onto my leg. I could see the race leader now, but I couldn't lose this chase. I dove into the lake and swam ferociously after it but wasn't ready for how cold this lake would be. When I got out of the other side of the lake, I had passed the turkey but was still in third place, and charged for the finish line, empty-handed.
