Thank you for this post. I read this MB from time-to-time and there is an abundance of duck bashing. It is ridiculous since they do win lots of titles and another today. Congrats to Edward Cheserek, Andy Powell, and the ducks program.
True. Scary to think how many more titles the ducks will get next track season too. Love the Ches. Humble king.

Yeah, and by looking at the homepage of LRC you'd have to look closely to find much about the FACT THAT CHESEREK MADE HISTORY BY WINNING THREE XC TITLES IN ROW FOR THE FIRST TIME!!
The BroJos while acknowledging Ches' dominance certainly made sure to barely acknowledge it and certainly not celebrate it.
Grampa Ches wins 3rd XC title...yawn
I also noticed no mention of the job done by Andy Powell and his over-achieving Duck men. They came in rated #9 and finished on the podium with a Fourth place finish. Kudos to Syracuse, but plenty of that has been given already. How about at least of begrudged kudo to the Oregon men?
There is a lot of Oregon bashing here on an ongoing basis. Much of that is related to jealousy of the program's success over the last few years, and just the cynicism and sophomoric posturing that's rampant throughout Lets Run. While neither the men or women won team titles here, both finished about as well as could be expected, and that's a testament to both Andy and Maurica in peaking everyone at the right time.
Both great programs. One gets lots of titles and thus trashed on from the east-coast-centric LR community. Just be glad NY never produces worthy running programs or we'd never hear the end of it.
Syracuse is in New York.
Syracuse is not Oregon or CU or Arkansas, Stanford, Wisconsin...
NY state has not produced such a program and likely never will. Nothing against this years stellar Syracuse win. Congrats to them.

So you are saying the NCAA champion program is "great" but not "worthy"?
Unfortunately you are correct

Syracuse Uni should move to Eugene...
I have always attributed the Oregon bashing to the fact that Nike bankrolls the athletic department, and Phil K. won't stop until he has bought a national championship in a "major" sport (sorry, as much as I'd like to say that track and field is a major sport, it isn't). UofO is UofNike. Oregon gets a ton of recruits that are looking at their stellar athletic reputation without weighing in the quality of their academics. I know it's very possible to get a good education at UofO but they are not regarded as an academic powerhouse. The likelihood of a professional athletic career pales in comparison to the value of a degree.
So I believe those are the two main reasons for the Oregon-bashing on these boards.
all college programs try to excel. best coaches, best facilities, best recruits possible... on and on. and until collegiate programs do things with no budget, guys living off the land, sleeping outside, and running on minimum nutrition, then start beating programs that do have mega-budgets... the "school with more resources" argument is complete bunk.
its not as if all top running recruits are being denied Oregon scholarships then they apply to CU then Stanford... I could see warranted complaints if everyone was bum rushing oregon's doorstep to the point that other programs were all having to wait for Oregon to deny these runners before they can recruit them.
the fact that oregon has figured how to succeed makes them the program they are because...... SPOILER ALERT: every team is trying to win, with whatever resources they can get. many schools have much more endowment, alumni, and foundation money for sports than oregon.
The fact that syracuse won this year without phil knights money also makes the resources argument moot. and perhaps syracuse has a foundation and alumni $$$ so they are as corrupt as Oregon or SEC football.. or any other team trying to win.
As long as they are winning titles, who cares what bashers think.
Oregon out performed their projections this year but no one has said a peep about it. If it were the other way around we'd have ten different posts about how could it possibly happen that a program totally funded by Nike money under performs year after year blah blah blah...

Exactly. Also, Nike sponsors tons of college programs. Oregon isn't the only one. Are the posters who claim that Oregon is "Nike funded" saying that the athletes are being paid directly by Nike? Or that Nike gives them scholarships apart from and in addition to the ones Oregon provides? If so, state your name and your accusations and your contact information. The legal teams at U of O and Nike can surely provide you with some accurate information on that subject.
Oregon Men and Women should sweep indoors and outdoors this year :) GO DUCKS Also Oregon is getting new facilities soon like they need them lol http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2015/09/oregon_unveils_plans_for_propo.html
