Well done.
Chris has done a tremendous job and now he's got a national title.

Agreed but he won't get the recognition that Boeheim does.

And your point is?
I've always put Chris in the good guy group because of one interaction with him at a road race.
I was living in DC in 1998 I think. There was a road race that had like a $1000-$2000 bonus if you broke the course record which was super slow. Chris was still trying to compete but was 39 or 40 I think.
I broke clear of the field and was on pace for the record.
Next thing I know I hear yelling from behind me. The pace car has led me off course. The guys behind me are telling me to turn around.
I turn around and take a while to sprint and catchup. When I came up on Chris he was encouraging and said, "you can do this."
A few of the other guys were more intent on taking advantage of my misfortune.
And Chris also told me that race was when he knew his competitive days were over. Some no name beat him at some obscure road race. So maybe I should take credit for the win today. I don't beat Chris, he keeps trying to compete instead of coaching and who knows what happens.
And your point is?
Nothing you said makes the OP's post incorrect.
When he lapped me at Penn Relays one year, he actually said 'excuse me'.
True story.
When i sent a HS prodigy to him, i said 'it'll take three years to get him there', and he said 'I'll remember that', he did, and the runner became an all-american .
Congratulations Chris and coach Bell .

A couple years back, Jim Boeheim said that the best coach at SU was the track coach (meaning Chris). Not false modesty; he meant it.
WOW look at the times from HS the Syracuse guys had and now they are NATIONAL CHAMPS
Yes Knight was a stud coming in but the others?
Colin Bennie – 9:07.44
Martin Hehir – 9:00.21
Dan lennon 9:00.52
Philo Germano – 4:19
Joel Hubbard – 4:09.27
Joe Kush – 9:20.03
Not the set of pr's you would say would win a national title but a coaching staff that develops talent.

Uh, wejo is the OP.
Also, I'm sure Coach Fox does not want the kind of "recognition Boeheim has received in the past year. Not good.
how many are foreign?

Just Knight (Canadian), I believe, but I am open to correction.
Those seem like solid PR's to me. Some 9:00 guys mixed in with a 4:09 and a superstar from Canada. I would say there is plenty of talent on that squad.
They did run great today and deserve the NCAA title. Great job to Syracuse!
cool. I don't care who wins as long as they aren't one of these teams that is nothing but foreign runners.
If you look at 'Cuse's roster you'll notice a big chunk of their guys are from NY. 3/7 today are from NY and only 1 international (Knight, Ontario) but he's about 4 hours from 'Cuse. Just a fact I heard someone point out earlier which to me is pretty impressive. Props to Coach Fox who coached up some raw talent. Hard to argue this guy has done a great job in developing his crew.
Also, this makes another national champion within the past year from Syracuse, NY. Fayetteville Manlius is about 10 miles away from their campus. Wonder what's in the water up there

Just 1 knight but his home is closer to the Syracuse campus than any other kid on the team
I have known fox for years just a great guy all around. He never forgets where he is from and will still recruit Maryland and West Virginia kids.
Thanks Weldon! So proud of our hometown up here. Central New York - hometown to Fayetteville XC Boys and Girls National Champions, Marathon greats like Jerry Lawson, Olympians Jen Rhines, Don Paige and a trail of top-ranked runners, but we are most proud of NCAA XC Champions. They will get a warm welcome from the running community here in the Land Of The Ice And Snow.
I never thought I'd ever see the day our Orange would run down Wetmore's Buffs or Stanford or Oregon. INCREDIBLE!!
Go Orange!!!
Looks like the NCAA spent all of a buck-forty-nine apiece for those National Champion T-shirts. Sheesh.

You overlooked actual marathon greats like Pete Pfitzinger and John Tuttle, not to mention a wprld record holder like Dick Buerkle? Blasphemy!
I've known Chris since HS. We competed against each other, roomed together, and he is a one of the nicest guys. I am very happy for him and his team, they peaked at the right time and needed it in order to win.
Chris had a brilliant running career and took that knowledge and built a great program. It didn't happen overnight which should make it sweeter.
Congrats Chris!
