Well,
It finally happened, at the end of this year my non-Obamacare compliant Health Insurance Plan will no longer be available (due to the one year extension that got implemented prior to the midterms). As a result my health care premium will go from $760 a month to $1100 a month for worse coverage than I had before ($1000 higher deductible). On the bright side we will now have pregnancy coverage that we don't need (vasectomy) and mental health coverage that I plan to never use. I fail to see where this is a good deal (unless you are one of the 50% who receive a subsidy from my tax dollars). Anyone else in a similar situation?
My plan was also dropped. I am self-employed, had a $1000 deductible, and was paying just over $900 every two months.
I believe that I am going to have to pick a new plan with lower monthly premiums, but the deductible will be huge - $5 or $6k/year. I suppose I will pay less if I am not sick. However, if I do get sick, I will pay substantially more than under my old plan. I personally preferred paying the higher premiums with the lower deductible in case I got cancer or something and needed expensive treatment, but I don't think that is an option anymore.
As far as I can tell, poor people may be better off with Obamacare because the rest of us are subsidizing them, but middle-class and upper class people got royally screwed over. And premiums are projected to jump much higher in 2017 when the government stops subsidizing health insurance companies.
