Sam Joe,
I'm pretty sure I got you pegged. You are a local runner who thinks he's a big deal, because he wins the local race of 150 runners , in 17:30. Since there are now 18 races to choose from every weekend, rather than 4 to choose from 20 years ago, and there were tons of runners under 16 minutes. Now, you strut around calling 20 minute runners "hobby joggers"
By the time you are 39, you'll be washed up. Meanwhile guys in their 50's are still running under 19 minutes, and on their warm down while you're struggling the last 1/4 mile.
This post nails it. There are so many young punks these days who think their 18 minute 5ks make them special and better than the hobby joggers...not realizing that they're hobby joggers themselves.
They also don't realize that 20 years ago, their 18 minute 5ks would have gotten DESTROYED in local races. It's only the modern watered down races that allows them to think they're God's gift to running.
Pathetic.
Serious reply: yes, I am ready. This, along with July 4th and Memorial Day, makes up the hobby jogger Grand Slam.
I run all three every year. The Turkey Trot is one of my favorite days of the year. Seriously.
Does the Silicon Valley turkey trot elite field count?
Fourth grand slam event is the Jingle Bell Jog. If you wear the Santa hat beyond the finish line, bring dollar bills for the homeless guys who swear they’re on the Nice list.
Yes! Ready once again. The turkey trot is one of my favorite races of the year.
I see old friends, get in a competitive effort, and justify the big turkey dinner later in the day.
It's a great day every year. Looking forward to it!
Where's the cranberry sauce boss? He used to own this thread... and the turkey trot.
Chill out and look at the date of the original post. This thread gets bumped every year at this time. It's a letsrun Thanksgiving tradition.

Same. I am primed and ready. Glad cooler temps are here. Bring it.
The turkey trot is the hobby jogger Olympics.

For those of us who don't get paid to run, which is 99.9999% of the runners on Earth, the Turkey Trot is as good as it gets. We're all hobby joggers.
I find it hilarious that so many faster hobby joggers think they're too good for a local race, especially a Turkey Trot. Get over yourselves.
The Turkey Trot is one of the highlights of my running year.
Somebody yelled “Run, Forest, run!” At me yesterday. I was painting a wall.
My older brother & dad were turkey trotters afore me! Tradition, baby!
I am going to BRING IT....I figure a 19:30 should allow me to lap the field. $45 for a brown LS with a turkey wearing sneakers on it and a 6 inch pie is well worth it. Bragging rights around the dinner table and my relatives asking how far a 5k is and how many of them Kenyans ran today.

epic troll
Bump! One week, hobby joggers, one week! Are you ready?
I can't wait and I'm so ready.
Half way reading through this thread someone said only 4 days to go and I got over joyed, thinking really only 4 days? Then I realized this thread is 3 years old.
I've been running pretty well this fall and I'm feeling good, so I'll be ready to go on Thanksgiving morning. All jokes aside, this is seriously one of my favorite races all year. I see old friends, some of whom I haven't seen since last year, and then gather with family for the big feast. It's a great day.
I started training a few weeks ago. Up to 14 miles last week. About to start the tape, then begin carb loading on Monday. I discovered beer roots juice, bought some, and will break it out Thursday morning. This WILL be the year I break 30 minutes and maybe get a podium spot. Is it probably too late to get some of those Nike 4% type shoes?
