Stress Fracture in 3rd Metetarsel? (sp?)

When I first had my stress fracture, I noticed that the pain was quite severe when I walked barefoot. The pain wasn't too bad when I wore a shoe, as a result I continued to train on it, until the pain became unbearable--even with a shoe. Get it checked out.

Are you in orthotics? They will help keep some of the weight off of that area if that is the problem.

It's not very painful right now and it doesn't hurt at all if I push on the top of my foot, it only hurts on the bottom. I ran only a mile today on the treadmill and it didn't hurt hardly at all, but I noticed a lump in my foot, it felt kind of swelled up or something on the area that hurts, it isn't noticeable on the outside though, I can just feel it when I walk or run. Any help is appreciated because I won't be able to see a doctor until monday.

I had two stress fractures (2nd and 3rd metatarsal)in my senior year of H.S. After that I would balance on the edge of a stair with my toes, and lift my body weight up and down. This strengthened my forefoot muscles, and I have not had a stress fracture in the 28 years since.

had the same thing last fall...dead give away is pain at night (or when you're sitting- anything where your foot is not bearing weight). this indicates bone and not muscle as the problem. if you tap on it and have pain, thats another good indicator. i know you think its early, but i stopped running on mine two days after i first felt any pain at all and it was already a stress fracture. a bone scan is the only way to know for sure the good news is, using a bone stimulator, i was off it for 4 weeks only, then did a modified 3-week return to running plan that alternated cross training and running and some lifting to help the bone get used to bearing weight. i returned for the championship part of the season (3 races) and pr'd for both the 5 and 6K. good luck...and be careful not to come back to running too early.
