Spikes? Chase Utley

Spikes aren't fast or slow. The person in them is. There are light spikes that weigh almost nothing but they fall apart quickly and also tend to cause more injury. Pick the ones that work for you.
Short races make support matter very little. Wear whatever makes you feel like running fast. I like Saucony endorphin MD's (i think they're on 4 now). Most popular are probably vics like someone mentioned. They're pricey though, I'd check out ebay for deals.
do you thing the md4s are too aggressive for a 3k or would they work fine? i usually run 1500's 3000's and the occasional 800.

MD4s are definitely 800-oriented spikes. I just got a pair for the 800m/mile, and I'm actually considering some LD4s for the mile just because the MDs are pretty aggressive. They would definitely be too aggressive for 3k. Amazon is currently selling LD4s for like $18-25 though, so you should look into those.

I've used MD3's (same as MD4's) for a 3k before. Suited me fine. I've used them for 400 up to 3k comfortably. Maybe if you run with a really sharply-angled heel strike they'd be uncomfortable due to lack of cushion, but they're fine for me. Ben True uses them for 5k's.

Bought a pair of LD4 from Amazon (first to finish) 6 days ago for $18. Even if they don't last forever, that's a bargain.
