By losing out to Seb Coe I have to think Sergey Bubka is breathing a big sigh of relief right now. What a mess Coe is in now.
Can you name other people or teams that were fortunate to lose a major election or game?

Coe has been really soft on doping. I like Coe. I hope he wasn't in on the bribes too and stays out of prison. He should do something to clean up the sport though.
What really scares the crap out of me is that when the smoke clears Hightower will be one of the ones left standing.
Coe's brown nosing got him to where he is today. good and bad. and the process of late exposes his IQ , which is several digets lower than expected.
No way Bubka needs this. Wait for all this crap to blow over. and then enter the scene, in like 4 years.
but a guy like Coe is dug in pretty good. he has the kiss ass skills to stick awhile.

-Sweet, sweet irony strikes again. Another full blown idiot exposed.
With the other shoe that dropped this week, I think it will be a very very long time before you see a Russian, or anyone that has even drank Russian vodka, get the top job here....But I agree Coe is a lightweight and all about image. Never liked him.

Bubka dominated the sport in an era when "everyone" was doping, I can't imagine he would be any more credible than Coe if he were in this position, or even 4 years from now.

This is exactly the point. Imagine if he were president right now with everything that is going on with Russia. That would put him in quite a tough spot, to say the least. Coe is in a bad spot, but it's not as bad a place Bubka would be in.
Bubka is Ukrainian, not Russian. Don't know much of anything about his personal politics, and I realize he competed for the Soviet Union for most of his career, but I'm assuming that since Ukraine and Russia have been fighting of late, he can't just be declared a "dirty Russian".
I used to idolize Coe, he seamed so genuine and gracious in victory. Then I found out he and his dad lied about his training. I though okay, not that bad, turns out he actually ran a lot of miles like the rest of us. Then I eventually realized this deception makes him suspicious for doping, if your willing to lie about something as big as your training, why not also take performance enhancing drugs/blood dope? I eventually learned a large portion of the elite running community believes he blood doped. I guarantee he has skeletons in his closet and is praying they don't come out in this scandal.

John McCain. Didn't have to pick up the mess from little Bush.

Bubka had strong ties to ousted ruler Viktor Janukovych. He was from 2002 until 2006 Member of Parliament for his "Party of Regions".

Yeah and the Russians bombed the sports complex in Donetsk where he held his Pole Vault Stars Meet. He ended up having the cancel the meet and basically pass the torch to Lavillenie, the meet will be held in France now.
I'm going to guess he is not a big fan of Russia...
So is Bubka pro-Russian or not? There seems to be conflicting opinion....

Wow, if that's the case I wish he WAS the president right now. Maybe he wouldn't hold back any punches like Coe will try to.

Yeah, I don't know. That would be some very inside baseball as a Russian ban seems to require an IAAF meeting and voting.

Assuming Coe blood doped and Bubka did a whole slew of things with the Soviets, either one has skeletons. The question is which one would be willing to take down Russia and the IAAF mess even if it means the truth about themselves comes out?
I would have to say Bubka because Coe's country or sports complex hasn't been bombed by Russia lately.

I'm not sure you're very familiar with Mr Bubka's politics.

However, the Olympic gold medallist, who for four years was a member of the Ukrainian parliament, finds himself in an invidious situation.
Unlike Klitschko, he has been a supporter of the deposed president, Viktor Yanukovych, and has favoured strengthening ties with Russia, which is not a popular view in the current climate in Kiev.
